Fall break is on the horizon, and the temperature is finally starting to approach the 50s (in degrees Fahrenheit — that’s around 10 degrees Celsius for all ye non-Americans). In other words, it’s the perfect time to grab a blanket, cozy up and immerse yourself in your new favorite watch, read or album and take the break to explore some of the wonderful live events this week.
On theme with this spooky season, we have Black Phone 2, coming out Oct. 17. Four years after the events of the 2021 horror film The Black Phone, Finney and Gwen Blake return in this thrilling sequel, ensnared in yet another dark tale. It’s also directed by Scott Derrickson, so if you enjoyed the first film, this second one might be exactly what you need for a good movie night get-together with a few friends and some tactical blankets to pull over your heads.
Science-fiction and fantasy author Ken Liu’s new book, All That We See Or Seem follows Julia Z, an orphan hacker living in a world where technology, virtual reality and dreams are all of greater function than they are in our real world. A chance encounter with Elli, the wife of a famous lawyer and a dream artist, throws Julia’s quiet life into disarray, leading her to a grand adventure. With interesting characters and high stakes, this book promises to be an engaging read and look into an alternate future-fantastical world.
For something to listen to, the artist bbno$, popular for both his music as well as his online personality (cosplays and interactions with other artists included), is coming out with an album under the same name — bbno$ — on Friday. This long play album’s exact tracks are being kept hidden until the album drops, but we can expect some of his recent singles to be populating the list. If you’re a fan of internet-rap or indie-pop, be sure to check it out.
Finally, for live events, be sure to check out the Baltimore Comic Convention! Conveniently occurring over fall break, take a trip down to the convention center to browse the expansive artist’s alley and visit your favorite comic artists. Dress up in your best cosplay, and attend events featuring guests like Bonnie Wright (who acted as Ginny Weasley), James and Oliver Phelps (who acted as Fred and George Weasley), and Vincent Martella and David Errigo Jr (the voices of Phineas and Ferb). From Friday to Sunday, there’s lots of excitement to go around.
