There is life beyond the library. I have compiled a list of some of those alternatives. Some of them are great places to grab a snack. Some will bring out your inner intellectual. And of course, they are all great places to finally crack the books.

Carma's Cafe

Carma's is unique mostly because everything at Carma's is made at Carma's.  This includes the sandwiches, the salads, the desserts -- even the chocolate in the mochas. Everything at Carma's is also extremely delicious. If you get tired of working, join their knitting club. They'll even teach you how. Oh, you can also study there. But really, it's the food that's important.

Hodson reading room

Located in Hodson on the lower level is glass-encased room, aptly namd the Hodson Reading Room.

The Hodson reading room is a great place to study, but you can only fit two or three people in it. If you manage to grab a spot, you have a spacious, quiet, prestigious-looking room in which you can feel very diligent and academic. The two-story walls are covered with portraits of members of the Hodson Trust.

Outside, freshmen quad

You do go to school here, right? Think AMR quad. You're going to spend enough time cooped up in MSE or the Hut this winter. While it's still nice, get outside and study on the quad. In addition, you might as well meet some new people.

The Hutzler Reading Room

The Hutzler Reading Room is located in Gilman on the second level (quad entrance level) in the back.

Sooner or later in your Hopkins career, you're going to have to make the walk of shame: when MSE closes at 2 a.m., you'll have to haul yourself over to the Hut and pull an all-nighter.

If you're like most, this will happen many times. You'll get used to the extreme temperatures, the creepy yellow lighting and eventually you'll stop checking out everyone else's iTunes.

Your experiences in the Hut will generally be depressing, but we've all been there. Get yourself some Red Bull, have a little cry and get back to work.

AMR I Study Lounge

AMR I Study Lounge is conveniently located on the first floor main entrance of AMR I.

It can get pretty crowded and loud, especially in the evenings, but if you're looking for somewhere more relaxed where you can bring dinner from Megabytes or talk with your friends, AMR I is it.
