On Friday afternoon, an Insomnia Cookies employee was found dead at the store location inside Charles Commons.
The Baltimore Police Department (BPD) arrived to the scene at around 3:15 p.m.
“This incident is being investigated as a suspicious death/possible suicide,” Detective Raganzu Howard of the BPD Media Relations Unit wrote in an email to The News-Letter.
According to University Spokesperson and Director of Communications Dennis O’Shea, the woman was not a Hopkins affiliate.
Insomnia Cookies CEO Seth Berkowitz released a statement Saturday addressing the death.
“We are devastated by the tragic loss of one our team members at our Johns Hopkins University store,” Berkowitz said. “We have created a company where all employees feel like family and yesterday we lost one of our own. We are all grieving. Our thoughts and prayers are with family and friends of the deceased during this very difficult time. At this time, our sole focus is to provide comfort to those affected by yesterday’s tragedy. We appreciate the support we have received from the Johns Hopkins community and ask that you continue to respect the privacy of those involved.”
Insomnia Cookies closed for the weekend following the incident but has since reopened.
