The last weekend of September is here, and exams are creeping into everyone’s schedules. While some tests are wrapping up and others are just around the corner, there is still plenty of time to carve out a break. Baltimore is buzzing with options: sip wine among dinosaurs at the Science Center, eat your fill of pasta and cannoli in Aberdeen, sample sweets at Harborplace, cheer on pig races in Pigtown or stroll through the Abell Street Fair to close out the weekend.
Friday
Wine & Dinos, Maryland Science Center, 601 Light St., 7–9 p.m.
Spend the evening exploring the Science Center after hours with a glass of wine in hand. The event includes tastings from Linganore Winecellars, light snacks and the chance to wander through the Dinosaur Mysteries exhibit. Admission is $40 and open to guests 21 and over.
Maryland Italian Festival, Ripken Stadium Parking Lot, 873 Long Dr., Aberdeen, 5–11 p.m.
Kick off the weekend at Maryland’s largest Italian festival. The opening night features food vendors serving classic Italian dishes, live music, carnival rides and local artisan stalls. Admission is $12 for adults and free for children ages 12 and under. Parking is free and shuttles are available.
Saturday
Sweet Tooth Saturday, Harborplace, 301 Light St., 12–7 p.m.
Harborplace hosts a dessert festival featuring Baltimore’s best local bakers and makers. Expect everything from cupcakes and donuts to gourmet chocolate and inventive ice cream flavors, with games, live music and plenty of treats to sample. Admission is free.
Pigtown Festival, Washington Blvd., 12–7 p.m.
This annual neighborhood festival is known for its one-of-a-kind pig races. The day also brings live music, local food, craft beer, artisan vendors and plenty of community spirit. Admission is free.
Sunday
Abell Community Street Fair, Abell Ave. between 30th & 32nd Sts., 12–5 p.m.
Abell’s annual street fair fills the neighborhood with food trucks, live music on two stages from local artists, various vendors, art and a popular silent auction. The event showcases one of Baltimore’s most colorful communities and is free to attend.
