To watch and watch for: week of Oct. 30

This week’s releases include Next Exit, Smithereens and Little America: The Official Podcast.

As the semester chugs along, don’t forget to take out some pockets of time to sit back, unwind and relax. Ushering us from October to November is a diverse assortment of releases, ranging from personal dramas to compelling horror.

In film, the critically acclaimed Armageddon Time and Next Exit are arriving in theaters. Netflix’s Enola Holmes 2 is also set to stream, while A24’s Close will have a limited release. Meanwhile DC fans can await the season 4 premiere of Titans.

For readers of Stephen King, Erika T. Wurth’s White Horse: A Novel is set to deliver similar thrills. In addition, The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida, winner of the 2022 Booker Prize, will finally be on the shelves.

The music world will see a divergent mix of albums released this week from the likes of Sigrid, Alicia Keys and Joji. Kumail Nanjiani hosts a new podcast titled Little America: The Official Podcast.

Close, directed by Lukas Dhont — Nov. 1 

The friendship between two teen boys (Eden Dambrine and Gustav De Waele) is suddenly torn apart in this affecting coming-of-age tale.

Armageddon Time, directed by James Gray — Nov. 4

Inspired by Gray’s own childhood growing up in Queens, this drama follows a family as they struggle to pursue the American dream.

Enola Holmes 2, directed by Harry Bradbeer — Nov. 4

Enola Holmes (Millie Bobby Brown), the teen sister of famous sleuth Sherlock (Henry Cavill), is back to solve another mystery in this light-hearted sequel.

Next Exit, directed by Mali Elfman — Nov. 4

In this science fiction comedy, two strangers (Katie Parker and Rahul Kohli) ride together to end their lives in an alternative world where the afterlife exists.

Titans: Season 4, created by Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns and Greg Berlanti — Nov. 3

The DC superhero series returns, with the titular heroes now facing a powerful cult in Metropolis.

An indigenous woman experiences inescapable visions and embarks on a journey to confront her past in this twist on the classic horror novel.

The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida, by Shehan Karunatilaka — Nov. 1

Set in Sri Lanka, this satire follows a war photographer who wakes up dead and must seek out those whom he loves in the afterlife before time runs out.

Featuring journalists and subjects from around the world, Nanjiani dives into the immigrant experience in America with weekly episodes on Apple Podcasts.

How to Let Go (Special Edition), by Sigrid – Nov. 4

This special edition adds new tunes to Norwegian singer-songwriter Sigrid’s heartfelt, feel-good sophomore album How to Let Go.

Santa Baby, by Alicia Keys — Nov. 4

The first hints of Christmas are already arriving with Alicia Keys’ Christmas-themed studio album, following up on her holiday single “December Back 2 June.”

Smithereens, by Joji — Nov. 4

Japanese singer-songwriter Joji blends genres of R&B, hip-hop and alternative in his third studio album, set to coincide with his upcoming tour.
