The 11th-ranked Hopkins field hockey team clinched the program’s first Centennial Conference Championship title in 15 years on Sunday. The Blue Jays headed up to Lancaster, Pa., where the 10th-ranked Franklin & Marshall College Diplomats hosted the Conference Tournament.
The fourth-ranked women’s soccer team closed out their undefeated regular season Conference schedule with a 5-0 shutout against the Franklin & Marshall College Diplomats. After taking the regular season title, the Blue Jays will host the Centennial Conference Tournament, which will decide who will come out with both a championship and a ticket to continue their season into the NCAA Tournament.
It was a very busy weekend for the Hopkins volleyball team as the Blue Jays went up against the Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks, and the Franklin & Marshall College Diplomats.
On Saturday, the Blue Jay football team hosted the Muhlenberg College Mules in quite possibly the most important game on the Centennial Conference schedule this season. With a win, the undefeated Mules would be in prime position to end Hopkins’ eight-year reign atop the Conference. Spoiler alert: that didn’t happen.
Hopkins was bested by both the Fordham University Rams and the Wagner College Seahawks this past Saturday in Bronx, N. Y. and Staten Island, N.Y., respectively. The scores were 13-8 and 17-7.
The NBA season is officially underway, and everyone is already drawing conclusions about their favorite teams. While some fans are planning their championship tattoos, others are begging their team to start tanking for a high draft pick. Anything can happen during the course of an entire season, but so much has already been revealed in these first weeks.
Last Saturday, the 13th-ranked Hopkins men’s soccer team played their last scheduled home game on Homewood Field against the Ursinus College Bears. The Jays improved their record to 6-2 in the Conference and 12-3-1 overall, in a clean 3-0 victory against the Bears, who have yet to tally a win on the season.
The newest craze in baseball is “the opener” where a pitcher who is normally a reliever starts the game and pitches the first one or two innings for a team before they bring in their starting pitcher who throws the length of a normal starter.
The women’s soccer team had their Senior Day game Saturday against the Ursinus College Bears and asserted their dominance for the duration to win 5-1. The last regular season Saturday home game gave the team a chance to honor their six seniors in a ceremony before the game.
On October 5, two NBA teams competed in Seattle for the first time since 2008. The Golden State Warriors beat the Sacramento Kings 122-94 in KeyArena, the former home of the Seattle SuperSonics. The game was only a preseason game, so in the eyes of many, it didn’t really count for anything.
This past weekend, the Hopkins field hockey team defeated No. 19 ranked Ursinus College by a score of 2-0. The victory continued the team’s undefeated Conference season, while also extending the Jays’ win streak to 10 games. This is their longest win streak since 2008 and their 14-1 record is the best start to a season in school history.
This past Saturday, Hopkins hit the road for a Centennial Conference matchup with the Gettysburg College Bullets. It was business as usual for Blue Jays, who picked up right where they left off before their bye week. They picked up their fifth consecutive dominant victory, this time by a score of 51-14 and improved to 6-1 on the season.
This past weekend, the men’s and women’s swim teams traveled to Lewisburg, Pa. to go head-to-head against a Division-I opponent: the Bucknell University Bison. Although both the men and the women took first in multiple races throughout the day, only the men’s team came out victorious, while the women just barely fell short.
This past weekend, the women’s cross country team dominated the Rowan Inter-Regional Border Battle. They competed against other top Division III teams, including State University of New York at Geneseo, who followed right behind the Jays in second place. The Blue Jays beat Geneseo by 51 points.
Don’t worry everyone, we made it. The NBA season is finally upon us. No longer do we have to keep rewatching House of Highlights clips on Instagram of our various favorite NBA stars. There will no longer be tired conversations of last year’s regular season, playoffs or Finals. Another glorious 1,230 NBA games are on tap to begin this week, and there are a ridiculous number of reasons to be excited.
The Hopkins volleyball team traveled to Swarthmore, Pa. on Saturday to play a pair of key late-season matches. The first was a Centennial Conference tilt against the Swarthmore College Garnet and the latter a non-Conference matchup against the Vassar College Brewers. Both matches proved to be challenging for the Blue Jays, but the ultimate results were undeniably gratifying.
Once again, college basketball fans find themselves subjected to an endless stream of scandals. The long-awaited corruption trial began last week and a flood of information, upsetting yet expected, has flowed out. Three Adidas employees are the defendants accused of wire fraud. Since what they did, paying a student to play basketball, is not a crime, they are being charged with a related crime called wire fraud.
