This past weekend, both the men’s and women’s tennis teams traveled away from Hopkins to close out their fall seasons. To start, the women headed to Loyola University to participate in the Loyola Invitational.
The Hopkins football team’s regular season consists of only 10 games. This in effect makes every matchup a must-win game if the team is to legitimately contend for a postseason berth.
The 17th-ranked field hockey team continues to prove its dominance in the Centennial Conference as it defeated the Haverford College Fords with two first-half goals on Saturday. Although the Fords made the game close in the second half, the Blue Jays finished out the game strong defensively, resulting in a 2-1 final score.
Women’s soccer continued their hot run, winning both of their matchups last week. This past Saturday, they defeated the Washington College Shorewomen by way of 4-1. The victory pushed the Jays’ win streak to five games, as they have not lost since they played Messiah College on Sept. 5.
On a breezy Saturday evening, the Hopkins football team played their third Conference match of the season against the Dickinson Red Devils. Dickinson started with the first possession, but the Jays had flown into Homewood Field ready to compete.
This past weekend, both the men’s and women’s cross country teams travelled up to Boston, Mass. for the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown to compete against Division-I competition. Both teams had strong performances, with the men taking 13th out of 23 teams and the women placing 15th out of 24 schools.

Last week, All-Star forward Jimmy Butler officially asked the Minnesota Timberwolves’ front office to trade him away. Fans have long been speculating that Butler wouldn’t be re-signing with the team next offseason, but his decision to try and get out of Minnesota came earlier than many expected.
Both the men’s and the women’s tennis teams competed this weekend, as both teams advanced players to the semifinals in their respective tournaments. The men’s team sent 10 players to Philadelphia where they competed in the 10th annual Saint Joseph’s Invitational this past weekend. The women traveled in the opposite direction, as they opened fall competition at the 2018 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southeast Regional Championship in Fredericksburg, Va.
This past weekend, the Hopkins field hockey team played the Washington College Shorewomen in its Conference home opener. The 17th-ranked Blue Jays dominated, winning 3-0 and recording their third shutout on the season.
The Blue Jays came away from the week of Sept. 10 with a win and loss against the York College Spartans and the Haverford College Fords on Wednesday and Saturday, respectively. They defeated York 2-0 and fell to Haverford 1-0.
Last Saturday, the 15th-ranked Hopkins field hockey team opened Centennial Conference play with a win against the Bryn Mawr College Owls. With two second half goals, the Blue Jays took the 2-0 shutout victory.
Another exciting Grand Slam season on the ATP Tour just wrapped up, with Novak Djokovic securing his 14th career Slam at the U.S. Open. While there are still several notable tournaments coming up before the end of the calendar year — the Paris Masters, the Shanghai Masters and the ATP Finals — the end of the Slam season is as good a time as any to examine the current landscape of the sport’s elite players.
Women’s soccer got off to a blazing start in Centennial Conference play this past weekend, beating the Bryn Mawr College Owls by a ridiculous margin. The Jays went out and beat the Owls on their own turf by a score of 12-0, which was good enough to become the program record for goals in a game. Hopkins’ record improved to 5-1 and 1-0 in Conference.
Saturday was a very busy day for the No. 14 Hopkins volleyball team, not only playing a doubleheader and opening up Centennial Conference play, but also playing in two separate locations. The team first went up against the Owls from Bryn Mawr College before travelling 18 miles to Ursinus College to take on the Bears.
On Saturday, the Hopkins football team traveled to Bethlehem, Pa. to take on Centennial Conference opponent Moravian College. The Jays looked to rebound from the previous week’s heartbreaking last-second loss in their Conference opener against Susquehanna University.
This past Sunday, Vontae Davis of the Buffalo Bills pulled one of the ultimate power moves in sports history. After getting obliterated in Week 1 by the Baltimore Ravens with a final score of 47-3, the Bills were down 28-6 at halftime against the Los Angeles Chargers. It was at that point that the veteran cornerback, playing in his 10th season, simply changed out of his pads, left the locker room and retired.
Heading into its final weekend, the U.S. Open had been spectacular. Despite the sweltering heat that persisted throughout the tournament, tennis’ elite players had provided fans with a number of spectacular matches and captivating storylines.
With the MLB finally reaching the home stretch of its schedule, it seems like it is finally the appropriate time to start the obligatory recap of the full season. This season has contained a whirlwind of excitement and has entertained fans for seven months.
After a commanding home victory over Randolph-Macon College on Aug. 30, the Hopkins football team hit the road on Saturday, Sept. 8 to kick off its Conference schedule against the Susquehanna University River Hawks. The Blue Jays were undefeated against the River Hawks since the latter joined the Centennial Conference in 2010 and looked to add to this unblemished record. However, they ran into an opponent that was keen to rewrite history.
