The first weekend of October is the perfect time to step into fall and explore the city. Baltimore has something for every mood, from the final night of Rotunda Rocks and the Poe Festival’s gothic flair to an Asian food market on the waterfront, a wine tasting street fest in Harbor East and a film festival taking over The Charles.
Friday
Rotunda Rocks Concert Series, The Rotunda, 711 W. 40th St., 6–9 p.m.
This Friday marks the final night of the Rotunda Rocks series, which has been filling the plaza with food, drinks and live music all summer. The season closes out with Little Red and the Renegades, a band known for its Zydeco and Cajun sound mixed with American rock. Admission is free.
International Edgar Allan Poe Festival & Awards, 203 N. Amity St., October 3–5
The 8th annual Poe Festival opens this weekend with three days of programming dedicated to Baltimore’s most famous literary figure. Expect live performances, exhibits, tours of the Poe House and plenty of dark and dramatic flair. Admission is free with some ticketed events and tours available.
Saturday
Mooooncake Festival, South Point – West Covington Park, Sat. 10 a.m.–10 p.m.
Celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with over 90 food vendors from across Asia, more than 40 craft and gift vendors and live performances featuring K-pop dance and lion dances. General admission tickets are $12 before taxes.
Vino in Vogue, Harbor East, 800 Aliceanna St., 12–4 p.m.
Aliceanna Street transforms into an outdoor wine festival with tastings from sommeliers, shopping specials, local vendors and live music. Tickets are required, starting at $30 for 5 tastings, $45 for 10 tastings and $55 for 15 tastings. Full glasses will also be available for purchase.
Sunday
New/Next Film Festival, The Charles Theatre and venues across Baltimore, Oct. 2–5
Now in its third year, the New/Next Film Festival showcases a wide range of international films alongside work from Baltimore’s own creative community. Screenings and events take place at The Charles and at partner venues including the Baltimore Improv Group and Metro Gallery. Expect premieres, repertory screenings and appearances from filmmakers throughout the weekend. Admission varies by event.
