JHU Theater finally has a home on campus, and it's called the Merrick Barn. As we all know from Spiderman 2, with power comes responsibility, and that responsibility is one that a select number of theater folk have shouldered over the past few years. But lo and behold, by what senior Michael Friedman has described as "a miracle greater than those in the Bible - wait, don't print that - " these select few have graduated, and are passing the buck onto you, young students of the arts.

JHU Theater (formerly known as Hopkins Studio Players) has existed for almost two years, but this year marks the first that they have a permanent home on Homewood campus. Setting them apart from other established theater groups such as the Barnstormers or Witness Theater, JHU Theater is not solely an extra curricular venture-most cast members are students in Professor Astin and Loren Dunn's acting classes.

Astin and his students have done the work to establish theater as a respected and important discipline at Hopkins, but it is a work in progress, and depends on the interest of underclassmen who can carry this vision far into the future.

The group is holding an info session this week at "the barn" for all those interested in contributing to the direction and management of next season. Haven't had the chance to be involved yet? No matter. JHU Theater encourages all people, theater-virgins or not to go to the info session and share their ideas with everyone else, as long as those ideas are relevant, and not about which pizza topping should be the official JHU pizza topping. So go, discuss, create and prosper.

The info session takes place at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 16 in the Merrick Barn (located between the Mattin Arts Center and the MSE Library). The group will be accepting applications until 8 a.m. on Nov. 22. For more information, or to request an application, please contact Loren Dunn at lorendunn@jhu.edu
