Kick off break with 80s beats, museum fun, local films and an energetic performance onstage!

Thanksgiving break is almost here, but there is still plenty happening around the city. Kick things off on Friday at Ottobar’s early bird ‘80s dance party, spend Saturday hopping between art, film and live music, and close out the weekend with Talib Kweli at Baltimore Soundstage for a night of sharp lyricism before the holiday begins.

Friday

I Wanna Dance With Somebody... Before 9 p.m., Ottobar, 2549 N. Howard St., 6–9 p.m.

Start the weekend early with Ottobar’s ‘80s-themed early-bird dance party. Hosted by Stoop Productions, this 21+ throwback night features DJ Mikie Love spinning hits from the decade of big hair and neon. Enjoy drink specials, dance like it’s 1989 and still make it home before bedtime. Tickets are $21.17.

Saturday 

AVAM’s Birthday Bash, American Visionary Art Museum, 800 Key Hwy, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.

Celebrate three decades of creativity at AVAM’s 30th birthday bash. Enjoy a full day of art-making, guided tours, live music, artist meet-and-greets and birthday cake as the museum honors its past and toasts to the future. All programs are included with museum admission. Tickets are $15.95 for adults, yet student discount is available when identification is shown at desk, for which the reduced rate is $9.95.

Baltimore Filmmakers Day, Enoch Pratt Free Library, Central Library, 400 Cathedral St., 1–3 p.m.

Step into Baltimore’s cinematic past with a special 16mm screening of short films from the 1970s and 1980s. Hosted by film series curator Matt Barry, the event features works by local filmmakers, including Steve Yeager and Robert Maier, followed by an open discussion. Admission is free.

War On Women with The HIRS Collective & Mondrary, Ottobar, 2549 N. Howard St., doors open 7 p.m.

Catch Baltimore’s own feminist punk band War On Women live at Ottobar with The HIRS Collective and Mondrary. Known for its fierce energy and bold lyrics, the band brings anthems of empowerment and rebellion to the stage ahead of its upcoming album release. Tickets are $26.32.

Sunday 

Talib Kweli with MC Bravado and Nature Boi, Baltimore Soundstage, 124 Market Pl., doors 7 p.m.

Catch Brooklyn-born rapper Talib Kweli live at Baltimore Soundstage for a night of lyric-driven hip hop and sharp storytelling. The show also features MC Bravado, a New York songwriter known for his narrative style and Baltimore rapper Nature Boi. Music starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $39.
