The 24th-ranked Blue Jays women’s soccer team stormed past Swarthmore in the Centennial Conference semifinal matchup 3-1 on Saturday, on the strength of two goals by junior Christina Convey and a goal by sophomore Hannah Kronick.
The question every hockey fan wants answered: will there be an NHL season this year? My take: no. Want to know why? Because, well, we’ve seen this before.
After finishing up the regular season with a seven game win streak, the Hopkins women’s volleyball team entered the conference tournament primed to take on Swarthmore College. However, any hopes for a normal week of practice were erased after Hurricane Sandy rolled through the region. Even with the aftermath of the hurricane, The Jays knew they needed to come in ready to play.
Within the past seven seasons, the Blue Jay women’s soccer team has taken the Centennial Conference crown all seven times. However, against a hard-nosed Haverford team, 2012 would fail to see Hopkins win their 8th straight conference title.
The Hopkins water polo team came in fifth place at the Southern Championship this weekend. The Blue Jays finished the season with a school record 25 wins and nine losses. Given their fifth place finish in the tournament, the Blue Jays will not advance to the CWPA Eastern Championship for the first time in seven years despite their strong overall record.
Over the weekend, the Hopkins wrestling team headed to College Park, Md. to participate in the annual UMD Terrapin Duals.
While most students were preparing for Halloween festivities last Wednesday night, Hopkins men's soccer played the most exciting game of their season with a dazzling overtime win against Franklin & Marshall (F&M). Defeating F&M in regular season play 1-0, Hopkins had the home field advantage once more in the conference playoffs.
One week ago, with two games remaining in the 2012 regular season the Hopkins men’s soccer team was sitting at 5-7-2 overall with a less than stellar conference record of 3-3-1 after dropping three straight games. The team was truly on the bubble of the Centennial Conference Tournament, threatening to drop an 11 year streak of consecutive playoff appearances.
The Lady Jays women’s soccer team concluded a dramatic week that included a 5-0 romp at home against McDaniel and a thrilling comeback win, featuring two goals in the final 20 minutes, to defeat Gettysburg 2-1.
The Hopkins Blue Jays fell to Navy this past weekend, in what was a rematch of a match earlier in the year in which Hopkins won 14-13.
On Friday, the Hopkins field hockey team traveled to Gettysburg for their regular season finale. Coming off of two straight conference wins against Bryn Mawr College and McDaniel College, the Lady Jays knew their competition would be much stiffer against conference power Gettysburg College.
Through six meets this Fall season, the Hopkins women’s cross country team dominated the competition with four number one finishes and a number two national ranking. That success has been driven by the tandem of junior Holly Clarke and freshman Hannah Oneda, two of the top runners in the nation, who have provided the Blue Jays with a formidable punch.
After a strong performance the previous weekend, the Hopkins women’s volleyball team returned to action last Wednesday to take on conference opponent McDaniel College. Despite McDaniel’s last place position in the conference standings, the Blue Jays knew they needed to stay focused. Despite already clinching a spot in the Centennial Conference tournament, Hopkins still needed to be on top of their game with this final regular season home matchup holding playoff implications.
The Hopkins men’s and women’s swimming teams took on Franklin and Marshall this past weekend. Both squads dominated the Diplomats en route to two victories. Each team took 13 of 14 in their respective meets.
For the second week in a row, senior running back Jonathan Rigaud rushed for over 200 yards to lead the 10th ranked Blue Jays past Centennial Conference opponent, Ursinus, 35-17.
Last Saturday, many Blue Jays took to the warm indoors, preparing for the inevitable arrival of Hurricane Sandy.
As the eyes of baseball fans across the country fix their attention on San Francisco for the World Series this week between the Detroit Tigers and the host Giants, 28 other front offices have already begun to mull their offseason plans.
As the final buzzer sounded on a wet, stormy and cold Friday night at Homewood Field, the Hopkins football team charged onto the field to celebrate an as yet undefeated season and a 49-35 victory over Gettysburg College. The Blue Jays victory over the Bullets pushed them to 7-0, with a 6-0 record in the Centennial Conference and an overall ranking of 10th in the country. There were two weather delays that caused the game to start an hour later than scheduled and to be stopped with 6:28 remaining in the 2nd quarter as thunderstorms passed through the Baltimore area.
Blue Jays water polo continued to command the Division III Eastern Championship, winning its 14th title in 21 tries. Within the division, Hopkins has undoubtedly morphed into a dynasty.
Fresh off of two straight heartbreaking conference overtime losses, the Lady Jays field hockey team needed their senior leadership to propel them back into playoff contention. Sitting at 3-4 in conference play, the Lady Jays were hungry to reach .500 in conference play, especially after Wednesday’s overtime loss to Dickinson College, who were just 1-6 in Centennial Conference play before the game.
