Volleyball wins first round playoff game

The seventh-ranked Blue Jays completed their fourth consecutive undefeated regular season with a 48-28 victory over the McDaniel Green Terror. With a 10-0 record, the Blue Jays earned their sixth straight Centennial Conference title.
The long hours of training that began in June in preparation for the cross country season proved to be worth it this past weekend, when both the men’s and women’s teams delivered impressive performances.
The Hopkins women’s soccer team turned in two impressive performances in the NCAA D-III Tournament this past weekend at Homewood Field. In the first round, they toppled the Western Connecticut State Colonials 3-1.
This past Saturday, the Hopkins men’s cross country team clinched the NCAA Mideast Regional Championship for the second time in Hopkins history, defeating top seed and conference rival Haverford College by just one point.
This weekend was the annual Centennial Conference Volleyball Championship Tournament. Five teams competed for the automatic bid into the NCAA Volleyball Tournament. After going undefeated in Conference play during the regular season, Hopkins was the #1 seed and therefore was able to host the tournament here at Homewood.
Last Friday night was the highlight of the season for the Jays men’s water polo team. In their last home game of the year, the Jays defeated the 18th ranked George Washington University Colonials in what turned out to be a riveting contest. The Jays ended the Colonials five-game league winning streak with a 15-10 win at the Newton White Athletic Center, handing the Colonials their second loss in the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPS) this season.
After a full 90 minutes of play and double overtime, the Blue Jays took the eighth-ranked Franklin & Marshall Diplomats to penalty kicks in the semi-finals of the Centennial Conference Tournament. The final score was 0-0, but the Blue Jays fell short 4-3 in penalty kicks.
The Hopkins women’s soccer team will enter the NCAA D-III Tournament with momentum on their side after emerging triumphant this weekend in the Centennial Conference Championship. On Saturday, they toppled the Swarthmore Garnet 3-1, and the following day they avenged their loss from earlier this season against the McDaniel College Green Terror with another 3-1 win.
This past weekend, the Hopkins Women’s Fencing Team headed to Philadelphia for the 2016 Elite Invitational. The competition was fierce, and the Jays certainly had their work cut out for them facing North Carolina, Northwestern University, University of Pennsylvania, Princeton, Temple and Yale.
LeBron was right: 3-1 leads are spooky. This June the Cleveland Cavaliers came back from a three-game deficit to defeat the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals. Then in November, the Chicago Cubs came back from a three-game deficit to defeat the Cleveland Indians and win the World Series.
This weekend at Homewood, the Blue Jays men’s Soccer team defeated the Washington College Shoremen 1-0 in the regular season finale to secure their spot in the Centennial Conference Tournament this upcoming weekend.
It was a record setting day for the Hopkins football team, which has ranked consistently high over the past three seasons. The 42-7 victory over the Ursinus Bears moved the Jays to 8-0 on the season and 7-0 in Centennial Conference play.
Last Friday, the Hopkins field hockey team took to the field for the last game of 2016. Heading into their road finale against the Gettysburg College Bullets, the Jays were eager to make the last game of the season count.
This World Series is different than any other World Series in recent memory, not only because the Chicago Cubs won for the first time in 108 years or the fact the Cleveland Indians put up a good fight, but also because of how both managers are using their bullpens.
The Hopkins Women’s Cross Country team continued to display their dominance this season, claiming their ninth straight Centennial Conference Championship this past weekend in Haverford, Pa. With 21 total team points, the women were virtually unchallenged from the start.
