W. Lacrosse beats Rutgers University Scarlet Knights

The Hopkins women’s lacrosse team began Big Ten Conference play on Saturday against the Rutgers University Scarlet Knights. The Blue Jays won 16-9. The game was led by senior attack Nicole DeMase, who scored a game-high five goals. DeMase spoke about the team’s win.

Swim teams end season at NCAA Championships

The Hopkins swimming teams traveled to Greensboro, N.C. this past week, as the Jays competed in the NCAA Championships, with the men’s team placing fourth and the women’s team placing 13th after the four-day event.

Athlete of the Week: Noah Corbitt – M. Swimming

This weekend brought an end to yet another fantastic performance by the men’s swim team. The Jays took home fourth place at the NCAA National Championship for the fourth straight year. 

NCAA Sweet Sixteen will not fail to excite

In the Round of 32 in this year’s National College Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Basketball Tournament, there was only one upset, and that was No. 5 Auburn University steamrolling No. 4 University of Kansas, so it was not even that surprising of a victory. While this means we may not have a Cinderella team coming from outside the Power Five conferences, it also means we will have some highly anticipated matchups in the Sweet Sixteen.

M. Lacrosse takes down Delaware, falls to Virginia

The men’s lacrosse team wrapped up its non-Conference schedule with home matchups on consecutive Saturdays against the University of Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens and the University of Virginia (UVA) Cavaliers. The previous Tuesday, the Jays recorded their most convincing victory over the season thus far, with an 11-4 triumph over Mount St. Mary’s University. It was critical for the team to build on this momentum over its next two games.

QB speculation aplenty ahead of the NFL Draft

With free agency now under way, the NFL’s quarterback landscape is beginning to take shape. The Joe Flacco and Case Keenum trades to the Denver Broncos and Washington Redskins, respectively, can be made official, and Nick Foles has signed a four-year, $88 million contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars. 

M. Tennis excels in match vs. Washington and Lee

Hopkins men’s tennis took on the Washington and Lee University Generals on Sunday. The bout ended in quite the triumph for the Jays who secured a perfect record in doubles and a near-perfect record in singles.

M. Lacrosse bounces back from loss against Syracuse

Coming off back-to-back road victories against the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Tar Heels and the Princeton University Tigers, No. 18 Hopkins traveled to the Carrier Dome on Saturday to play the No. 13 Syracuse University Orange in a renewal of one of the game’s historic rivalries. 

W. Lacrosse extends win streak to four games

Another win for the Blue Jays as the women’s lacrosse team faced off against the Hofstra University Pride in New York on Saturday. In their sixth win of the year and their fourth consecutive win, Hopkins won 15-11. Impressive offensive performances by junior midfielder Mackenzie Heldberg and junior attackman Maggie Schneidereith led the way to a great team victory.

Lots of intrigue before the NBA Playoffs begin

Last week, the Cleveland Cavaliers were officially eliminated from playoff contention. That means for the first time in four years, we are guaranteed to see a new matchup in the NBA Finals come June. 

Athlete of the Week: Jack Bunting — Baseball

The Hopkins baseball team had its second consecutive 3-0 weekend this past weekend. The weekend started on Saturday with a doubleheader against the Elmira College Soaring Eagles. In the first game, the Blue Jays took advantage of a walk-off single by sophomore infielder Matthew Ritchie in the bottom of the 10th inning to win the opener. 

T&F earns five All-American honors at NCAAs

The Hopkins indoor track and field teams have trained all year for this one moment: the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division-III Indoor Track and Field National Championships. Hopkins sent eight women and three men to Boston, Mass. to compete in the final and most important meet of the season. 

Athlete of the Week: Austin Gu — M. Tennis

This past weekend, the Hopkins men’s tennis team travelled to Salisbury, Md. to take on the Salisbury University Sea Gulls. The Blue Jays defeated the Sea Gulls by a score of 7-2, earning their second win of the season.

Baseball sweeps Baltimore Invitational to start season strong

Hopkins baseball stepped up to the plate ready to take care of business for all three of their games this weekend — the first against Rutgers University-Camden and the second and third against State University of New York College at Cortland.

W. Basketball’s season ends against Scranton

After securing an NCAA tournament bid for the first time since 2012, the women’s basketball team played in the first two rounds of the tournament this weekend. Although Hopkins scored a resounding victory in the first round, the Blue Jays fell in the second round to the University of Scranton Lady Royals, ending their tournament run. 

No. 10-ranked W. Lacrosse defeats Furman 20-6

It was an extremely one-sided affair this past Saturday on Homewood Field as the No. 16 Hopkins women’s lacrosse team gave the visiting Furman University Paladins a thrashing by a score of 20-6. 

Machado and Harper find homes, but what now?

A couple of players just got a whole lot richer and two fan bases are about to enjoy their season considerably more. The two most sought after free agents in recent history, third baseman/shortstop Manny Machado and outfielder Bryce Harper, whose negotiations dragged well into spring training, finally found a home this past week. 

M. and W. Tennis open up regular season play

This past weekend, both Hopkins tennis teams played matches on the road, as the men traveled to Salisbury, Md., while the women headed to Annapolis, Md. While the No. 21-ranked men defeated the Salisbury University Sea Gulls 7-2, the women lost to the United States Naval Academy 5-2.
