Now that March Madness is over, your attention can be steered back to Hopkins. While the basketball games may have been nailbiters, so were our Lacrosse games! Leonid Kotov is a junior majoring in Mechanical Engineering and Economics and is an essential member of the Hopkins Men’s Fencing team. His weapon of choice is sabre. In his junior year of high school, Kotov earned a gold medal in the 2022 USA Summer Nationals. Upon his arrival to the collegiate fencing scene, Kotov was awarded the 2023-24 US Fencing Coaches Association National DIII Sabre Newcomer of the Year. He followed this with being named to the USFCA Mid-Atlantic/South All-Region in 2025.

Stone Meng, a senior majoring in Biomedical Engineering (BME) at Hopkins, was the 112th student body president and is the co-founder of Higher Grounds Vending. Yes, I know it’s almost Thanksgiving and the main thing on your mind is when can you go home. It’s an exciting time in the world of Hopkins sports. The fall season is climbing to an exciting culmination and the winter season is slowly heating up. Now is an amazing time for everyone to go and catch a game, either outside if you can brave the chill or inside at the gym or pool. As the winter athletes show off how hard they have been training for the season and the fall athletes demonstrate the elevated levels of play they developed over the past few months, go support and cheer on the Jays.

Ikshu Pandey is a postbaccalaureate research assistant at the Rowland Institute at Harvard and a Fulbright recipient committed to studying the nexus of neuroscience and materials science for medical innovation. She is also dedicated to fostering equity in STEM and healthcare through her global advocacy work. In an interview with The News-Letter, Pandey reflected on her passion for interdisciplinary research and the effect of Fulbright experience, which have solidified her desire to create collaborative, globally informed solutions in neurodegenerative disease and healthcare engineering.

Welcome to another week of Hopkins Sports in Review! By now, we’re in the full swing of the academic year. Things might be busy due to exams, but it’s still the fall sports season and lots of exciting events happened over the past week. From opponents traveling thousands of miles across the world to the games that took place on Homewood Field, the sports teams were full of action.

School is officially back in session! It’s been a couple of weeks since our first day of classes, and so the fall season of Hopkins sports are well underway. The 2024-25 was an immense success for the Blue Jays, as they finished runners up in the DIII Learfield Director’s Cup, only trailing Emory University. Hopefully this season can see continued success across all disciplines, and perhaps a first place finish in the Director’s Cup to make it three in four years!
