There is no doubt in my mind that when I think “Lilly Pulitzer” I think college sorority. I may be biased because of my occasional and unfortunate “sratiness,” but upon hearing the news of a Lilly Pulitzer collection at Target, I was ecstatic. I was, however, shocked when I saw so many mixed reviews. People across the nation were up in arms over “affordable Lilly.” It led me to wonder why an expensive Lilly was the only ideal Lilly? To me fashion was never the price tag but rather how it looked overall.

Spring break is usually the time where you see only bikinis and burns for miles. For me, however, I’m always in Ireland during break, getting paler and staying indoors. The one benefit to my overcast country is getting to see the trends across the pond and how radically different they are than the ones here. The outfits are tighter, the hair is voluminous and jeans are rarely on the horizon.

There are few things I love more than awards show fashion. The second the new year rolls around, I am filled with anticipation for the jaw dropping looks, the horribly placed layers and the inevitably unflattering gowns. To be fair, bad dresses happen to everyone. I, myself, thought my white fairy dress for junior prom was fashion. However, in my opinion, this year’s Oscars were less than underwhelming.

As springtime arrives, it’s time to clear out old trends and make room for the new looks of 2015. Velvet, corduroy and satin are quickly replaced by chiffon and denim as the temperatures increases and the sun begins to shine. This season is home to flattering cuts, feminine outlines and old-time charm.

To begin, welcome back to Hopkins and welcome back to the sorority and Greek life takeover. Much to the chagrin of the unaffiliated portion of campus, all conversations will only focus on girl dates, rush rooms and possible future homes. From personal experience, I can wholeheartedly say that my room looks like my sorority exploded in it. There’s glitter, streamers and bows covering the floor. This can only mean one thing: Greek rush is upon us. To be precise, rush starts this Sunday, Feb. 1.

Due to the technology advancements of the 21st century, fashion blogging and trend watching are as accessible to us as ever. Instagram, if you don’t already know, is an application that allows us to post filtered pictures that give insight to our experiences and lives. There are many different types of “Insta-bloggers.” Recently, however, the new trend is to document all glamorous adventures through pictures of daily outfits, café meals and beauty bags.

On Oct. 20, 2014, Oscar de la Renta died at the age of 82 in his home in Kent, Conn. After struggling with cancer for eight years, De La Renta passed away leaving behind a massive legacy of prêt-a-porter fashion. Born and raised in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, he always desired to work in the fashion field throughout his youth. After training with Cristobal Balenciaga in Spain, De La Renta moved to work with Antonio del Castillo at Lanvin.

And here it comes. The overwhelming feeling when you walk outside and want to cry. Here comes the moment when you would rather sleep on a fraternity floor than take the beloved walk home. It is finally fall, and no amount of “basic” fall loving can change the fact that it’s cold outside.

As college students, we are all forced to re-evaluate our lives every time we open our wallet. Unfortunately, the sad reality of our poverty does not coincide with the fashionista lifestyle. Every class we take means 50 to 75 minutes of online shopping. Once my cart hits that beloved $500 mark, I am forced to exit out and spend an inordinate amount of money on Brody coffee. This is where my column is meant to help.

Les Chaussures, le fromage, les baguettes, and les bisous. These may be four random words to some people, but to many girls across college campuses, they summarize exactly why everyone wants to be French.

As fall approaches, every fashion lover is forced to look at their closet and re-evaluate each and every item. As much as you may have loved the off-the-shoulder dresses and Bohemian babe inspired ensembles of summer, it is time to remove the clutter and make room for a whole new era... or rather the second era of the sixties.
