Welcome back to Leisure! Two weeks into the semester, the buzz of campus life is already in full swing. Between classes, clubs and catching up with friends, the days are moving fast. This weekend is a chance to step outside the Hopkins bubble and explore the city. From oysters on the waterfront to books, live music and comedy, Baltimore has plenty to keep you inspired.
Friday (until Sunday)
Fells Point Oyster Fest, Broadway Square, 4–10 p.m.
Kick off the weekend with one of the city’s cherished waterfront celebrations. Oyster Fest brings together fresh seafood, live music, local vendors and plenty of energy by the harbor. The best part is that proceeds support oyster restoration in the Chesapeake Bay, so you can enjoy good food while giving back.
Saturday
Baltimore Book Festival, Waverly (30th–32nd Streets), 10 a.m.–6 p.m.
For book lovers, this festival is a must. Spend the afternoon browsing works from local authors, publishers and bookstores, or sit in on talks and readings. Whether you are searching for your next favorite novel or just want to soak in Baltimore’s literary scene, it is the perfect weekend stop.
Sunset Concert: The Old Part of Town, Star Bright Farm, 5–7:30 p.m.
Head out to the countryside for roots and Americana music in a relaxed outdoor venue at the lavender fields. With wine, local beer and space to spread out on the farm, this concert is as much about atmosphere as it is about music. Bring friends, a blanket and enjoy the early fall evening. Tickets are $25.
Fatal Fauna: Til Death Do Us Part (Murder Mystery Dinner), Maryland Zoo, 6–9 p.m.
The Maryland Zoo is hosting dinner with a twist. Guests become part of a wedding-themed murder mystery while animal ambassadors make surprise appearances throughout the night. Expect laughter, intrigue and plenty of memorable moments in one of the city’s most unique venues. This event is 21+ and tickets are $110.
