    Now I’ve seen everything. Is this article an example of “Libsplaining?” Hillarious.

    For *both* O’Donnell and Esme;

    If you want to “win” the culture war, you need to start by understanding your opponent. A benchmark for success would be “Can I understand the other’s position well enough to state their position in words they would agree with?” You don’t have to agree, but if you want to engage and potentially persuade, you have to understand.

    This understanding will enable three benefits for any issue;
    * You may be wrong. Understanding shows you where you may need to yield on an issue.
    * You may be both right. Understanding shows you where you can afford to compromise or just leave each other in peace.
    * You may be right. If you really want to win in debate or on the battlefield, you need to understand your opponent’s worldview and intentions.

    You won’t get any of that from just shouting past each other. You will gain from more listening.

    If there’s interest, I’d love to have lunch with either (or both!) of you.
