This past weekend, the Hopkins wrestling team participated in a back-to-back-to-back triple-header, with three matches against different teams. On Jan. 19, the Blue Jays took on the Washington & Lee University Generals (40-14) and came out victorious at Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania.
The performance of Caroline Smith, a sophomore distance runner on the track and cross-country teams, merits her selection as this week’s Athlete of the Week. Since August, Smith has been competing against and besting fields filled with Division I competitors.
Last Wednesday, after the original meet was postponed due to inclement weather, the Hopkins men’s and women’s swim teams took part in a meet against Towson University and Navy in Annapolis.
For a weekend scrimmage against Denver University, Hopkins men’s lacrosse traveled to Colorado this weekend, where they were defeated 14-10 by the defending national champions.
The day is finally upon us. The most watched sporting event in the United States will be held this coming Sunday at 6:30 p.m. But this particular Super Bowl is special for many reasons. First of all, it marks the 50th anniversary of the Super Bowl. Fifty years of some of the best games. In accordance, the NFL suspended the use of roman numerals for this one game. It’s simply “Super Bowl 50.” Furthermore, the Carolina Panthers, led by Cam Newton, had the best record in the NFL with a regular season record of 15-1. The Denver Broncos, led by veteran legend QB Peyton Manning, also had a phenomenal season.
For years, LeBron James has largely been put on a pedestal by the media as an athlete who is team-first and humble in the face of his enormous success. I would argue that his tenure so far in the NBA indicates exactly the opposite.
While those of us trapped in America’s Eastern seaboard spent the past week hiding from the cold and snow, those in Melbourne have been enjoying temperate weather and astounding tennis.
On their 10 games over Intersession, the Johns Hopkins men’s basketball team was 6-4 to hold them at 8-8 overall and 5-4 in the Centennial Conference.
On Jan. 20, the Lady Jays took on Dickinson College in another Conference match up. Hopkins entered the game with an overall record of 6-8 and a Conference record of 4-4.
Last week, the Hopkins men’s wrestling team traveled to southeastern Pennsylvania to take on the Gettysburg College Bullets in an early season Centennial Conference matchup.
On Jan. 11, the Hopkins men’s lacrosse team was ranked fifth across the nation by the USILA/Nike Preseason Coaches Pole.
With fewer than 10 games remaining in the regular season, the Hopkins men’s basketball team holds the fourth position in Centennial Conference, behind the Franklin & Marshall College Diplomats, the Swarthmore College Garnet, and the Gettysburg College Bullets respectively.
