Course covers chemistry in real life

From analyzing the organic chemistry of something as simple as bread, to explaining the forensic chemistry of cultural heritage objects, Chemistry for Connoisseurs — a new seminar-style chemistry course taught by Professor John Tovar — exposes freshmen and sophomores to real-world applications of organic chemistry and teaches them about scientific communication.





Hopkins opens BA/MA program in Barcelona

Hopkins is partnering with Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), a university in Barcelona, to offer a five-year BA/MA program in World History to eligible students currently majoring in International Studies or History, who also speak Spanish.




Six months in, freshman class is finding its way

CollegeChoice, an online college information resource, ranked Hopkins freshmen as the 20th happiest freshman class in its list of the 50 Colleges and Universities with the Happiest Freshmen, which was calculated using only freshman retention rates.


UC Davis professor talks on drug trials

Colleen Clancy, professor of pharmacology at the School of Medicine at University of California, Davis, presented her work on a novel approach towards computational medicine as part of the Distinguished Seminar Series on Tuesday in Mason Hall.


Cricket club seeks to expand

Laughs and cordial greetings echoed down the athletic center hallway from the auxiliary gym last Thursday at 10:30 p.m. Inside, players of the JHU Cricket Club organized themselves into teams to kick off their first official practice. Once this was settled, the bowler focused on the far-off stumps and began winding up. After he gained momentum from a short jog and a windmill-style arm motion, the ball was released and hit by the bat with a loud crack. The outfielders scrambled to get the ball to the stumps and the hitters dashed back and forth to get as many 22-yard runs as possible.


Project explores the history of Hopkins

In an effort to reconnect the Hopkins community to its shared history and traditions, the Office of the President launched Hopkins Retrospective, a project that includes several initiatives intended to make the University’s history more widely accessible.


SGA discusses alumni outreach, dining

In their second weekly meeting of the spring semester, the Student Government Association (SGA) discussed a variety of topics, ranging from the Hopkins Alumni Association’s new plans, to new dining plan options, and communicated with members of the administration.


String of robberies leaves students worried

A Jan. 7 robbery at the 7-11 convenience store next to the Homewood Apartments and a Jan. 14 armed robbery at the Subway restaurant on the corner of St. Paul and 33rd Streets have prompted Campus Security to increase its presence, according to Acting Assistant Director George Kibler.
