Sikh Student Association aims for religious diversity

At a meeting of the Sikh Student Association, four students sat in a room in the Interfaith Center on Sunday afternoon. Accompanied by music played from a phone, the students meditated, chanting the name of the Sikh god, Waheguru, and focusing on the divine nature.



APO embraces service, building friendships

With a current membership of over 150, the co-ed service fraternity Alpha Phi Omega (APO) has a formidable presence on the Homewood Campus and is involved in activities with the local community.




USDA looks into Hopkins animal welfare violations

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will look into whether the University breached the Animal Welfare Act after multiple citations of accidental animal deaths in research labs, including a rabbit that died from asphyxiation in a cage-washing machine and two monkeys that were strangled by chains in their cage.


LGBTQ students reflect on sororities

Following sorority recruitment, LGBTQ students have mixed views regarding their place in Panhellenic sororities. These students feel generally accepted by the organizations as a whole but wonder if all individual sorority members feel the same way.

When sophomores return to campus for Intersession or the spring semester, they are faced with the looming problem of having to acquire housing off-campus. For most students, this marks the first time that they have to seek out their own living accommodations.


Early graduates feel excited, regretful

In June 2015, junior Nathan Choe will be one of many undergraduate students who graduate early this year. There has been a considerable rise in the number of undergraduates who decide to forgo cap-and-gown tradition with their classmates and graduate early instead.


IDF veterans share positive experiences

Two veterans of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) shared stories about how their military service shaped their lives in an event hosted by the Hopkins American Partnership for Israel (HAPI) and the Coalition of Hopkins Activists for Israel (CHAI) in the Charles Commons Barber Room on Sunday.


SJP Israel Apartheid panel sparks debate

Sponspored by Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) as part of Israel Apartheid Week, “Brutality by Design: Responses to Racist Security Regimes” sparked discussion over the Israel-Palestine conflict and drew on alleged similarities between police militarization both overseas and in the U.S. on Tuesday in Charles Commons.



jhuTASA celebrates Taiwanese Year of the Goat

The Taiwanese American Students Association (jhuTASA) rang in the Lunar New Year, which is celebrated by many Asian cultures, at its first general body meeting of the semester on Thursday night in the AMR I Multipurpose Room.




SGA senior class senator faces impeachment

Senior Class Senator Parth Patel faces impeachment at the next meeting of the Student Government Association (SGA) on Feb. 25. Junior Mahzi Malcolm, a former senator, filed a complaint through the SGA Judiciary Board about the nature of Patel’s appointment process.


Wendland appointed KSAS dean

University President Ronald J. Daniels named Beverly Wendland as the James B. Knapp dean of the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences (KSAS), effective immediately.
