You might not be an artist. You might not be a musician. But chances are, you'll stop traffic to get a cup of coffee before class and will move mountains for a bag of chocolate covered espresso beans. Yes, for all the great art studios, practice rooms and student offices that the Mattin Arts Center offered to students when it opened last spring, the Caf still gets hands-down praise for the most valuable addition there.

For a cool break from the norm and a trip to feast both your stomach and your eyes, a solution awaits just around the corner in Hampden. Sharing half of a rickety white porch with a vintage clothing store, the Golden West Caf sits very inconspicuously on Hampden's main street; if not for the yellow banner above the porch steps, you'd probably drive right by without even knowing. This tiny local gem, though, is definitely worth discovering. The restaurant's decor is as confused as its name - what can you expect from a southwestern caf? This hole-in-the-wall invokes all the themes of a Parisian caf and a western saloon at once, lining the walls with everything from a Mona Lisa tapestry to a southwestern cow skull to framed pictures of the smiling manager and his toddler. There's even a dabbling of the Orient, with Chinese paper lanterns strung from the ceiling above the tiny wooden caf tables.

Maybe you've seen the Inner Harbor flocking with people before, but at 9 a.m. on a Saturday morning? You better believe it. With pink balloons and free food abounding, a lot is going down in Baltimore next weekend because it's that time of the year again: Whether you have breasts or not, you can be out racing for the cure to breast cancer next Saturday, Oct. 13.

Looking for a way to expel that studying aggression? Or maybe to burn off last weekend's beer calories? Well, Club Kung Fu just might be for you.

Don't worry if you haven't nailed that hot internship for next summer. If you have already, cancel it. Why? For eight weeks starting June 1, you could be out with a pack of Hopkins students, sitting atop a brand-new set of wheels, biking from ocean-to-ocean with wind in your hair. Admit it: that beats wasting away in a Dilbert-cubicle, any day.

The first couple of weeks back at Hopkins, you probably can't think further than just wishing yourself back at the beach. It won't be long, though, before you're back in a routine of classes and coffee and will have made your rounds to all the local venues. By then, you'll be ready to check out the great beyond.

Welcome, freshies, to the AMRs! -Appallingly Mediocre Residences, at best. You now have the choice of being one of two very different people. You can either be Type One, spending Saturday nights moping around, complaining to the Daily Jolt that even if there was something to do, it's too hot to go out.

There's a reason Hopkins doesn't have a Student Union; for better or worse, we have the library.

If you're looking around and still can't figure out where the real "city" part of Baltimore City comes in to play, then the Inner Harbor awaits you. Definitely the flashiest part of town, the waterfront attracts all the crowds, tourists and traffic you need to beat your B'more blues.
