As we enter the next four years of America, it seems like a lot of people are taking a greater interest in politics and activism than they previously had. Protests are popping up all over the place, from the Women’s March to the anti-Muslim ban protests at international airports across the country.

Following the presidential election, Hopkins students seem to have forgotten the apathy that typically characterizes them. Students have participated in protests against hate, fossil fuels, the review of the Humanities Center and so much more. All of this is great, but we can’t let it fizzle out.

After the election, a lot of us were rattled. My echo chamber of a Facebook feed reflected my feelings of hopelessness, fear and anger. Growing up in California and attending a so-called “liberal” university, most of my friends align themselves on the left side of the aisle, but there are a few who don’t share the same feelings as me about our new President-elect.

Bernie Sanders is coming to Hopkins on Nov. 17 as part of both MSE’s and FAS’s speaker series. Sanders is the most prominent speaker the symposiums have brought to campus in recent years, and in anticipation of a large crowd and an intense security situation, the University required the groups to dole out free tickets to the event.

The first of November hit us this week, and that means a lot more than you’d initially expect. It means Halloween is over, and so are all the spoopy memes. It means we’re in the final stretch of the semester (yikes). It means Starbucks started selling its Christmas drinks.

Everyone at Hopkins is stressed out. We all have papers and exams and problem sets and lab reports and and and we can’t possibly have the time to get all of that done and also be in an a cappella group and a theater group and a sorority and a community service group and and and also sleep.

Sleeping seems like such a simple thing. You go to bed at night and wake up in the morning, and whatever happens in between is what we call “sleep.” It’s you lying still in your bed for six to eight hours, and then when your eyes open in the morning, you’re refreshed and ready for the day.

When I was younger, I was afraid to order my food from restaurants. I wouldn’t talk to waiters, and I wouldn’t talk to cashiers. I would timidly whisper my order to my mother, who would relay my words. That’s just one example of how my social anxiety manifested itself before I knew to call it that.

The 68th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards aired on Sunday, Sept. 18, and this award ceremony crossed some big milestones for diversity in Hollywood.

If you haven’t heard of Pokémon Go by now, you must actually be living under a rock. Niantic’s smartphone game, which allows players to catch Pokémon by walking around in the real world, launched on July 6 and has since then gathered hoards of passionate supporters and critics.

Hopkins is home to a huge number of clubs and extracurricular activities, so we decided to highlight just a few of them. Take a look at what the members have to say about their groups, and be sure to check out the Student Involvement Fair on Sept. 9!

We all know the type: the conservative great-uncle who is very vocal about keeping his gun close and the immigrants out or the liberal classmate who really wants free college and legalized marijuana or the independent kid you went to high school with who makes it well-known that he is moderate on most issues. They’re the Facebook sharers, and if you don’t know one, it’s probably you.

I’d like to thank my loyal fans for sticking with me through Fresh Eyes and Sophomoronic. I couldn’t think of any puns associated with the word “junior” so that is 40 percent of the reason that I’m not continuing my column.

But looming over our heads are the dastardly final exams, final papers and final projects. Spring might be full of fun weekends, but that just makes the weeks in between that much harder. Personally I much prefer the innocence of the fall.

That would require me to let go of a few things, namely Netflix and my extracurricular activities. Maybe one day I’ll be able to curb my addiction to binge watching television, but I’ll never be able to step away from The News-Letter or the Barnstormers, the two places on campus where I’ve started to carve out my home.

Students should participate in and support the arts.

1. How stressed are you today?
(03/31/16 6:08pm)
It all started in February. I don’t remember the date. I just know it was at least a month ago. A bunch of the student resource centers were having an open house in the Homewood Apartments lobby. This is where I live.

It feels like no one believes their vote actually counts. If someone lives in a blue state and votes red, the candidate they want to win doesn’t have a chance, and if someone lives in a blue state and votes blue, why should it matter if they join the hoards of people all voting for the same candidate?
