It is incredibly likely that Happy Endings, one of my favorite shows, is going to get canceled. The show is a favorite of a small cult following. The time slot in which it currently airs was moved to Friday nights at 8pm on ABC. Yeah, I know.

I have to be honest; I did not watch the first three seasons of the U.S. version of The Voice on NBC. I was, however, always drawn to the idea of the show. For those of you who do not watch it, the contestants come on stage and sing to the backs of the four judges. The point is that each judge hears the voice of the contestant without being distracted by looks or demeanor, which in itself is a very noble concept. As Shakira said, “There is no prejudice involved. And that is very refreshing.”

Despite the cold weather, I am still on that Spring Break flow, so to speak. This past week I was lucky enough to go on a trip to the Dominican Republic with my family. I flew in and out of Santo Domingo. I have to admit that I was completely disappointed in myself with my preparation for the trip. I had not read any literature about the culture, so everything was a shock to me. People drive super fast and do not always adhere to traffic laws. The types of living conditions I saw made me so upset that I do not even want to describe them here. The place where I stayed was on the southeast portion of the island, which did not have as many tourists as I thought it would. Were they there but just did not go out and explore? The tourists that I did see, however, were mostly European. People were from all over and spoke many languages. It made communicating difficult almost all the time. Somehow, however, the tourists blended well with the locals and although no one seemed to notice or care that the population in that small section of the island was so diverse, I though it was great.

One of my favorite things to do is pretend that I am friends with celebrities I admire. I saw a lot of people I respect in the audiences of the recent awards shows. Now that the shows are all over, a lot of people I have talked to have been analyzing the results. It seems like all I can talk about with friends is the fact that so and so should not have gotten the Oscar, and such and such film should not have won the Golden Globe. But talking about those things cannot change what happened. Since this column focuses on the positive, I felt it was appropriate to talk about my favorite people. These are the first famous people I thought of from a long list of those whom I currently want to hang out with, hug and let know that they are appreciated.

This piece is tricky because it does not fit into one single category. My column is not a travel column, although travel is absolutely one of my favorite things. I also hope not to repeat here the same themes that were in my piece about loving cities. But, since my trip to Nashville this past weekend, I have been reminded of this: one of the greatest ways to push yourself out of your comfort zone is by exploring a new city like a local. Of course, this is difficult if you do not have a native tour guide, but I try to give it my best effort.

Jukebox the Ghost returned to Baltimore on Saturday, Feb. 9 for a sold out show at the Ottobar. The last time they were there was in 2009 but the show was not nearly as packed. “A few of you were there,” Tommy Siegel, vocals and guitar, said, pointing to the crowd. “It looks like you had babies.”

It took me a while to write this. About six years and a few months to be precise. It will be difficult to summarize why I love NBC’s TV show, 30 Rock so much, but I will attempt to in this timely reflection of this week’s season finale.

A few years ago, I was in the car with my parents as we drove to Niagara Falls, New York to celebrate Christmas with family. I had put in my earbuds after the tenth rendition of Bruce Springsteen’s “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.” I was giving up hope in the variety of song selection on the radio. I mean, I love the classics as much as everybody else. That includes the songs that appear in every singer’s Christmas record, most notably Mitch Miller and the Gang’s “Holiday Sing-Along with Mitch.” I also define the term “classics” very loosely. I consider Mariah Carey’s “All I want For Christmas is You” to be a modern classic. But I find myself cringing after an extended period of time when holiday music is playing on the radio. Enough is enough. We have all been there.

There is a lot going on this month. I could write about my Halloween, but I have nothing to say about the holiday that I did not already address last month. I could write about Hurricane Sandy, but I do not have the authority, and I would rather make people happy, and not sad. I could write about National Novel Writing Month (http://www.nanowrimo.org/), but then it would sound like me preaching about the importance of writing everyday. I could write about the election, but we already get enough of that everywhere we turn. I could talk about all of these things right now by saying that I won’t talk about them.

Halloween is coming! As a kid at heart, I cannot think of autumn without thinking of Halloween. I will always love the spirit of the holiday and the mystery of it all. Anything can happen.

There is something sweet and wholesome about a band of brothers. The country cannot get enough of them. Hanson. The Jonas Brothers. The Doobie Brothers (just kidding) — just a bunch of dudes who grew up playing instruments at home and decided to make a living out of it. The Avett Brothers have made a successful living out of it thus far, and they have their newest album to show for it.

It is hard to talk about things you really like. You put yourself in a vulnerable place. To some, you seem childish. Why should anyone believe you if all you do is like things? Especially if you are excited about what seems like an absurd amount of information that you know about one specific thing or element?

Hopkins's improv group, the Buttered Niblets, have done it again! This past Friday's performance proved to be one of the most entertaining — and also most crowded — performances this academic year.

Season six of NBC's award-winning show 30 Rock premiered Jan. 12 after a half season break. The show picks up in real time, where the staff of "TGS With Tracy Jordan" is just coming back from winter vacation. Tina Fey, star and executive producer, just gave birth to her second child, thus causing the delay. Although they had to wait impatiently for too long, fans were not disappointed. The premiere, entitled "Dance Like No One's Watching," finds Liz Lemon happy, refreshed and ready for work. Her colleagues and superior, Jack Donaghy, find this entirely puzzling. She laughs at Kenneth's silly clown suit and skips down the street, which are things regular Liz would never do.

There is no one in the music business right now who could produce a more classic, beautiful and joyous album than can the charming, timeless Michael Bublé. Bublé's newest album of Christmas songs, surprisingly entitled Christmas, was released on Oct. 21 by Reprise Records. Although it is a bit early to listen to Christmas music, it is worth every penny and every minute.

Not everybody is a fan of country music. But Lady Antebellum's refreshingly cool, contemporary take on country music mixes in familiar themes with soulful styling, going down smooth for all.
