I don’t know much about comedy. To be honest, I don’t have a very sophisticated sense of humor. Don’t get me wrong — I like sophisticated, witty humor. It’s a great moment when someone comes around to the end of the joke and it feels like a full circle moment. You can tell someone really thought out the joke when it almost feels like they laid out an introduction, arguments and a conclusion, making you feel like a smarter person for just having listened to them.

Andrew Petrisin, supply chain advisor at the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT), gave a talk titled “Supply Chains and Emerging Economic Issues” on March 10. He examined significant supply chain-related problems that the U.S. is currently facing and how the federal government aims to solve them. This event concluded the 2023 Speakers Series “Emerging Threats in the New World Order” hosted by the Aronson Center for International Studies and the International Studies Leadership Council (ISLC).

With another spring semester, the next Student Government Association (SGA) Executive Board election is upon us. This year, most positions are not uncontested, which is a welcome improvement from years prior. We hope that the increased number of candidates marks the start of SGA building itself back up.

Mist rolled over the marshy east bank of the Potomac River into the low-lying swampland that would become the neighborhood of Foggy Bottom. As an intern in Foggy Bottom this spring, I have the privilege of exploring one of the oldest neighborhoods in Washington D.C.

Daniel Kish, the president of World Access for the Blind, visited the Homewood campus to deliver a lecture on human echolocation on March 9. Kish was born sighted but completely lost his eyesight before the age of two due to retinoblastoma and has no visual memories.

On the evening of March 3, the Hopkins Symphony Orchestra (HSO) gave a concert titled “The Maestro,” celebrating the 30th anniversary of Music Director and Conductor Jed Gaylin. They played pieces by Mozart, Amanda Harberg and Manuel de Falla.

The Alexander Grass Humanities Institute (AGHI) hosted the 2023 Richard A. Macksey Lecture featuring Kwame Anthony Appiah, a professor of Philosophy and Law at New York University, on March 9. His talk was titled “Who’s Heritage? Preservation, Possession, and Peoples.” This annual lecture honors the late Professor Richard A. Macksey, co-founder of the Humanities Center that is now the Department of Comparative Thought and Literature.

Sundays are for three things: homework, laundry and the weekend debrief. The first two lack the importance of the third, but we have to be somewhat productive. I was craving my weekend debrief with friends, but the dining hall atmosphere wasn’t exactly appealing. I needed to leave campus to cure my Sunday scaries. So I called my friend, freshman Kamila Wong, and we went to the one place I knew would do the job: Kong Pocha.

The Student Government Association (SGA) held its weekly general body meeting on March 7 to discuss the Roast Off Funding Bill, Portrait for Student Memorial Funding Bill, Hopkins Got Talent Funding Bill, Black Caucus Tabling Funding Bill and the SGA Accessibility Standards Bill. They also presented on the Multimedia Art Showcase Report, Crab Fest presentation and Hopthon tabling.

The nicest house on the block is on the market. It’s the perfect addition, with everything from granite countertops to a backyard pool. There’s no denying its appeal, but it sits on the market for over two years as the family patiently waits for someone to hit its lofty price. This trade deadline, the family finally got an offer they accepted. After over two years of trade rumors and a reported asking price of somewhere between two and three first-round picks or assets, the Arizona Coyotes have finally traded Jakob Chychrun.
