Hey everyone! As we near the end of the semester, competition is ramping up across the board here at Homewood Campus. We had a lot of incredible games this weekend, as our spring season athletes continue to accumulate wins. Let’s take a look at some results!
This spring break, the two of us (along with our roommate, Liz) went to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil! This trip had been a while in the making, and we were really looking forward to it. Rio is Julia’s hometown — she was born there and only moved to the U.S. for college, so it’s where she’s spent most of her life. Yana had never been there before but was really excited to see the place where Julia grew up!

Hey everyone, and welcome to Women’s History Month! This March, we wanted to give special attention to women taking the motorsport world by storm. We’re kicking this off with Formula 1 (F1) Academy. Formulated as a bridge between karting and single seaters, the female-only Formula 4 (F4)-level championship hopes to build off of a strong debut season and propel more women into single-seater careers.
Nowadays, it seems like politics is absolutely everywhere (we are in an election year, after all), but one of the most controversial collaborations often comes when our elected leaders leave the swamp and step into the turf; or vice versa, when our favorite athletes exit the court and stand at the pulpit.
Josephine Chang’s love for fencing started with another passion: reading. As a child, the fantasy novels she read were alive with characters who practiced archery, horseback riding and sword fighting. Then, her first club moved into town, just one minute down the street... and the rest is history.
This past week has been incredible for Blue Jay sports across all modalities! Join us as we discuss some of this weekend’s sporting events and look at what’s next for our teams.
When we signed off on our last Hopkins Hot Lap article, we were expecting a relatively quiet news cycle, with very few new developments. Instead, we have been inundated left and right with breaking news in Formula 1 (F1). From early silly-season updates to contract extensions and team principal allegations, there is no shortage of intriguing updates in the F1 world. Here’s a quick recap on the latest bits of Formula 1 off-season chatter.
As European football comes back from winter break, the UEFA Champions League’s (UCL) Round of 16 will be kicking off in the next few weeks. In preparation for that, here are our predictions on how clubs will fare in this new stage of the competition.
Hey everyone, welcome back from winter break!
This Sunday, Jan. 28, we’re heading into the decisive weekend for the NFL Conference. The Baltimore Ravens will host the Kansas City Chiefs at the M&T Bank Stadium right here in Baltimore, Md. On the other side of the country, the San Francisco 49ers will host the Detroit Lions at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. Both games are predicted to be incredibly exciting; the Ravens will be playing their first AFC Championship final in 11 years, since their win at Super Bowl XLVII. Quarterback Lamar Jackson has had an amazing season, which is a stark contrast to last January, and is “locked in” to lead the Ravens to the trophy. The Chiefs, on the other hand, are looking to defend their title, bringing in heavyweights like Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.
The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, held on Sunday, Nov. 26, marked the end of the 2023 Formula 1 (F1) Championship. It was somewhat of a dramatic finale — although both Drivers and Constructors Championships had long been decided due to Max Verstappen’s unwavering dominance. Ferrari and Mercedes went into the last race of the season with the intention of claiming second place in the Constructors Championship. A risky strategy call by Ferrari, which ended up forcing Carlos Sainz to a second pitstop, coupled with strong race performances by George Russell and Lewis Hamilton, led Mercedes to finish three points ahead of the Prancing Horses.
About a month into summer break after my freshman year of college, I went to the mall with a couple of friends. At the end of the day, my father picked me up on his way home from work, and I showed him the dress I had gotten on sale. Five months after that, I wore that dress to his funeral. As the first anniversary of his death approaches, I wanted to write a small reflection of some of the things I’ve learned in the time he has been gone.
Last year, 450 million people tuned into the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Champions League final between Manchester City, one of the top picks for title contenders, and Inter Milan, who had launched an unlikely bid for the ‘Big Ears.’ As we head into winter and group-stage matches come to a close, let’s look back at the first games of this year’s Champions League and talk about what’s next.
In light of Max Verstappen claiming his third consecutive World Driver’s Championship (WDC) in last weekend’s race at the Qatar Grand Prix, join us for a recap of the 2023 season. Though the Charging Bulls’ dominance may be the headline story, this year has brought us mid-season driver swaps, epidemic dehydration and even lizards on the race track.
We’ve all done it: woken up some 15 (or 30) minutes too late, scrunched our eyes in exasperation at the steps of our morning routines that must now be skipped in order to make it to class on time. In high school, we were all guilty of it — exhaustion compounded after a particularly heavy week of assignments — and those extra minutes in bed felt like a worthy trade-off for having to eat your breakfast while walking out the door. But all of this changes when you get to college and are presented with exceptional freedom to control your own morning routine.
Before 2023, the majority of soccer fans probably had not heard of the Saudi Pro League (RSL). In fact, even the most avid fans would not have been able to predict the astronomical growth that the RSL has experienced this year. It started, like a lot of events in modern football, with Cristiano Ronaldo.
