Dear Younger Me,
On Saturday, music fans from across the East Coast gathered at Merriweather Post Pavilion for the annual Sweetlife Festival. Only in its second year of existence, Sweetlife brings up-and-coming (or currently popular) bands and hip-hop artists to MD for a day of music. Unlike other musical festivals Sweetlife is known for its green and sustainable platform. The festival features eco-conscious, sustainable and local vendors as well as a variety of educational efforts. The day is long and in recent years hasn't had the best weather, but concert goers still leave satisfied with good food and even better music.
The Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History in D.C. gives visitors an "inside" look at fish with its visiting exhibit, X-Ray Vision: Fish Inside and Out.
I will be the first to admit that my television obsession is unhealthy. I am not proud of the hours I devote to internet t.v. viewing, though I am proud that I have quit my previous addiction of reality television (a drug in and of itself). In my younger years, I yearned for the catfights and drama that came with each new dose of Survivor or Real World: San Francisco.
On Monday, Mar. 12, the Charles Village Video Americain held a candlelight vigil as it closed its doors for the final time. Approximately fifty supporters of the video store came to the vigil, held outside the St. Paul establishment.
Wednesday evening, author and political strategist Sophia Nelson spoke on the evolving nature of womanhood and being a woman of color for Women's History Month. The event was co-sponsored by Women's History Month Committee and the Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA).
Let's talk about tattoos. People tend to have a lot of opinions about these things, and they generally fall into one of three categories. The first is the blank-faced, "I honestly don't understand what you're talking about" reaction that tends to grace the countenances of country club members and women who like to knot their sweaters around their shoulders. These people often consider people with tattoos to have undergone "body mutilation."
As a child, St. Patrick's Day was that time you had to go to school with a green T-shirt on lest you be pinched by your classmates. Man, getting pinched was the worst.
Dear old boyfriend,
While its writers have somehow managed to make the "You know you love me" phrase ubiquitous among pop culture-savvy youth, Gossip Girl hasn't entirely managed to maintain the loyalty of its viewers. For those who have religiously watched all five seasons thus far, it is obvious that Gossip Girl has fallen into the trap that many prime time soaps do — fearing the show is too boring or too safe.
On Wednesday evening, the Spring Fair committee, the HOP and WJHU announced in an e-mail to the student body that Passion Pit will be performing at the 41st Spring Fair on April 20. Kingsfoil will also be performing.
For some of us, the creation of Facebook meant another forum to use for our digital diary. After all, Livejournal was so 1995, and Twitter doesn't have nearly enough characters to emcompass our tumultuous emotional states.
I love going to the gym. Be it the morning or the evening, there is always something (or someone) to watch while you feel like you're about to die. And the best part is that most of these people are repeat offenders.
In response to student feedback, the Fresh Food Café (FFC) has made some changes to the food that is served to students every day. At the start of the second semester, there were many new features implemented including a fresh orange-juice machine, a panini station, baked pasta at the pizza station, a revamped salad bar and cereal selection.
With age does not necessarily come wisdom. Not many people will tell you that in your life. And even less people will tell you that at Hopkins. But I am not one of those people. Over the past four years, I have amassed several questions and observances about our great university that are still a mystery to me.
Zombie Debt, a collective of undergraduate and graduate students, marched into Levering Food Court yesterday to speak about student debt following a mini-lecture in the Gilman Atrium.
Sometimes I like to disappear.
This past Saturday, alpha Kappa Delta Phi(aKDPhi) hosted its annual Breastival, an event designed to spread awareness during the month of October, National Breast Cancer Month.
