The Hopkins Wrestling squad has come off a tough weekend after facing three losses on the road. JHU traveled to participate in the Wrestling for a Cure Duals in Harrisburg, PA where the Blue Jays saw some great opposing teams on Saturday.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are becoming more and more relevant on the world stage. A research scientist from the Applied Physics Lab (APL), Jay Moore, came to Homewood to talk about a project he and several others have been working on, discussing their work with an audience of engineers in Gilman Hall this past Tuesday evening.

This year's Nobel Prize in Chemistry went to Israeli scientist Daniel Shechtman, for his discovery of quasicrystals—much of the research for which took place took place while Shechtman was on sabbatical at Hopkins from 1981 to 1983.

Our field hockey squad travelled to Swarthmore last weekend to face off against the Garnet. The Jays rallied late but were unable to overcome to deficit as the Swarthmore women held them off to win 3-2.

The men's and women's cross country teams journeyed to the Dickinson Long/Short Invitational last weekend. Both teams took first place in the 8K and placed in the top three overall.

Hopkins field hockey travelled to Babson College on Saturday and fought against the hosting Beavers. The final came out to a 3-2 loss for the Lady Jays, but by no means was it an easy win for Babson. It was the first loss of the season for Hopkins.

After four years of watching Hopkins athletics, I’ve seen a lot of great wins and a few tough losses. We boast great programs in just about every sport, and even some great club teams as well. I can’t think of a year when we haven’t dominated the Centennial Conference across the board, and even though lacrosse had one or two tough seasons since they got second in the country, they appear to be making a run at things now.

The men’s tennis squad strung up another set of wins this past week, continuing their success in and out of conference play. These four matches have added to a now 11-game-win streak.

This past Saturday, a cold rain visited Baltimore, halting Spring Fair and keeping people indoors. However the rain did not stop the men’s and women’s track teams from getting outside and competing at their home meet.

The Hopkins men’s tennis team faced off against Haverford and won after the Fords took the initial lead in the contest. Hopkins now stands at 11-3 on the season and is 6-0 in the Centennial Conference.

The women’s tennis team had a successful three-day stretch, collecting three consecutive wins while improving their record to 9-1. The ladies are now 6-0 in the Centennial Conference. One of their wins came from an upset against eighth-ranked Carnegie Mellon.
