With Labor Day already behind us, our Leisure Editor has some suggestions for you to bid summer farewell.

I hope you all had a wonderful Labor Day weekend, Blue Jays! I don’t know about you, but I can’t help but still feel like I’m in summer mode. Maybe it’s the temperature, or maybe that’s a personal pitfall. Either way, I’ve gathered some of this weekend’s greatest hits around our lovely Baltimore City for you to check out.

Friday

90’s Karaoke Night @ Metro Baltimore, 9 p.m.

Have an itch to belt out some NSYNC or TLC? Metro Baltimore, which is conveniently located right next to Penn Station, has you covered. Entry to the bar is free and for people 21 and older only, but you can enjoy some drink specials from the bar. Check out the event information on Facebook.

Saturday

September Opening 2022 at The Book Thing of Baltimore, 9 a.m. 4:45 p.m.

I’ve included this in my weekly events recap before, but for any new readers tuning in, The Book Thing of Baltimore is an absolutely crucial resource to you as a resident of Charles Village. During the pandemic, The Book Thing of Baltimore began opening once a month to patrons to take books from their store for FREE! That’s right, free books once a month. Take advantage of this incredible resource this weekend, and learn more about The Book Thing of Baltimore on Facebook.

Towson Fall Festival, 11 a.m. 7 p.m.

If you’re new in town and haven’t gotten a chance to explore Towson yet, here’s a sign that you should! Towson Fall Festival will be hosted at the Towson Courthouse Plaza, which is just to the left of the city center. The festival will feature local bands, food trucks and various vendors. Find more details on the Facebook page!

Hampdenfest 2022, 11 a.m. 7 p.m.

Hampden, the neighborhood immediately to the west of campus, is also hosting an exciting festival this weekend! All along 36th Street (colloquially known as “The Avenue”) various food and store vendors will be celebrating the neighborhood together. You can even participate in a pie eating contest or wing eating contest, if that’s your forte. Find more information on Hampdenfest’s website.

Sunday

Grease Sing-A-Long at The Senator, 10 11:50 a.m.

The summer days are indeed drifting away, as Sandy and Danny once professed. If you need an outlet to lament the coming of fall, head up to The Senator Theatre, which is about halfway between campus and Towson, for a sing-a-long to the famous movie musical. Get tickets and more information on the theatre’s website.

Ravens Season Kickoff at Guilford Hall, 1 p.m.

Care about football? Don’t care about football? Either way, I think we can all agree that game day atmosphere is invigorating regardless. The Guilford Hall Brewery serves as the perfect backdrop for such festivities with its classic beer hall layout and gorgeous architecture. For all of you who are 21 and older, dig into some beer and food specials to celebrate the beginning of the Baltimore Ravens’ football season. Get more information about the event on Facebook.
