The Hopkins swim team traveled to Washington, D.C. this past weekend to compete in their first meet of the season. The meet also marked the team’s first competition since saying goodbye to their long-time coach George Kennedy last June and welcoming new head coach Sccott Armstrong.

After a week of practicing in the rain, the Hopkins men’s soccer team was unfazed by the grim conditions, coming up with a 2-1 win in a rain-doused match against Gettysburg last Wednesday. The Jays entered the contest 0-2 in the Centennial Conference but proved their season was far from over in a triumphant win against the sixth-ranked Bullets, who entered play with a six-game undefeated streak.

After what was arguably one of their worst starts to open the season, the Hopkins water polo team started to see a change in momentum as Conference play began this weekend. The loss of their first seven games, while disheartening, is an ill-portrayal of the Blue Jays’ capabilities and not indicative of the future of their 2016 season.

Van Cortlandt Park is regarded nationwide as one of the most challenging cross country courses that a collegiate athlete will face. Located in the middle of the Bronx, the course manages to have it all — the flats, the rolling backhills and of course the dreaded Cemetery Hill. Despite facing their toughest competition yet this season, along with the gut wrenching tales of Van Cortlandt Park, the Blue Jays rose to the occasion during the highly anticipated Iona College Meet of Champions on Sept. 16.

The Hopkins men’s soccer team maintained their undefeated record this season with a 2-0 win against the Gwynedd Mercy Griffins last Saturday. This is the second time in three years that the Blue Jays have held a perfect record in their first five games.

The Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams asserted their strength as they kicked off the season last Thursday at the Baltimore Metro Invitational, hosted by the Stevenson Mustangs. The Jays lived up to their hefty preseason predictions with both the men and women finishing with perfect team scores. After finishing fourth at nationals last season, the Jays enter the 2016 season ranked top in the region and third in the country. Meanwhile, the men, who finished second in the Mideast Regional last season, are predicted to finish third in the region by the Cross Country Coaches Association. They will return four of their top five runners from Regionals.

Last Friday night, the Blue Jays won an exciting season opener against the Washington & Lee Generals. Junior defensive player Francesca Cali had a particularly notable performance to help the Jays solidify their win.

This past weekend the Hopkins men’s and women’s track and field teams witnessed outstanding performances at their only home meet of the year. Before hosting Saturday’s competition, the teams’ field athletes traveled to Emmitsburg, Md. to compete in the Mount Multi Meet hosted by Mount St. Mary’s University.

This past Saturday, the men’s and women’s track and field teams traveled down to Fairfax, Va. to race in the 2016 Mason Spring Invitational. At the meet, hosted by George Mason University, Hopkins faced a competitive field consisting of mostly D-I teams.

In a recent preseason poll, both the Hopkins men’s and women’s track teams were picked to win the Centennial Conference Championship in the upcoming outdoor track season. Both teams will be challenged by the Haverford College Fords, who are predicted to be runner-up in both the men’s and women’s competitions. The Hopkins men and women competed in the Maryland Invitational, hosted by the University of Maryland this past Saturday, and proved it will be a formidable challenge for any Centennial team to take them down this year.

Seven athletes from the men’s and women’s track teams represented Hopkins the weekend of March 12 at the NCAA D-III Championships in Grinnel, Iowa. The teams did not disappoint. Both men competing brought home All-American honors along with the four women competing in the distance medley relay.

This past weekend, both the men’s and women’s track and field teams brought home Centennial Conference titles from competitions hosted by Ursinus College in Collegetown, Pa. While the Jays came out on top, the Haverford College Fords did offer some competition. Along with the team titles, the Jays saw many record-breaking individual performances during the two-day event.

Coming off a Conference Championship win last season, the Hopkins baseball team has big goals for 2016. In a five-game series last May, the Jays defeated the Franklin & Marshall College Diplomats for the conference title.

The Hopkins Men’s and Women’s Track and Field teams participated in Boston University’s David Hemery Valentine Invitational this past weekend. The competitive field was filled with numerous D-I teams such as the Georgetown University Hoyas, Yale University Bulldogs, Boston College Eagles and many more. Both teams took advantage of the strong competition and ran some of the fastest times posted in the Centennial Conference this season.
