Carl Hart, the Dirk Ziff Professor of Psychology at Columbia University, presented on racial discrimination in drug policy on Tuesday evening in Shriver Hall. His talk, “Drug Policy is Race Policy,” was a part of the JHU Forums on Race in America, a series designed to promote conversations about race and racism at Hopkins.

Kim, an assistant professor of Sociology and the Korea Foundation Assistant Professor of Korean Studies at the University of Michigan, specializes in international migration and citizenship.

Former Wall Street trader and Hopkins alum Chris Arnade presented a talk titled “Divided by meaning: An exploration of Trump” on Friday, March 31. Arnade retired from Wall Street in 2012 to document poverty and addiction across the United States through his photography series, Faces of Addiction.

The Office of LGBTQ Life and the Office of Gender Equity (OGE) hosted a panel discussion in Gilman on the performance of masculine and feminine identities, experiences within queer and non-queer spaces and gender stereotypes. The Student Government Association (SGA) hosted its first annual Fall Forum, a platform for students to openly ask questions, view presentations and provide feedback to the SGA for its work, on Tuesday in Mudd Hall. The main discussions items on the agenda were mental health and diversity and inclusion, which the SGA has outlined as two of its three key focus areas for this academic year.

The Hopkins chapter of Active Minds held Send Silence Packing (SSP) to commemorate the 1,100 college students who commit suicide every year. The organization placed backpacks on the Beach on April 21 to represent those who have taken their own lives.
