Despite two tough losses this past week, the Johns Hopkins Field Hockey team will head into the Centennial Conference Tournament with an air of confidence this weekend, knowing they kept pace with the two strongest teams in the league. Hopkins fell to Ursinus 5-4 last Saturday and lost to McDaniel 3-0 last Wednesday, but played competitively and proved it could hold its own against these powerhouses. Despite these two defeats, the Blue Jays finished the season 9-8 and 7-3 against Centennial Conference opponents, good enough to earn them the fourth seed in the conference tournament.

After stumbling off to a slow start this season, the Johns Hopkins Field Hockey team's prospects looked grim; the Jays started 2-5 in the first three weeks of the season. However, the Lady Jays have made a complete turn around, and are now in the midst of a six-game winning streak that has enabled them to clinch a playoff spot in the Centennial Conference tournament. The recent hot streak also puts them in the running for home-field advantage throughout the conference tournament.

The Johns Hopkins Field Hockey team came out on the winning end of three tight matches this past week to extend its winning streak to five games. The hot streak also improves the Lady Jays' Centennial Conference record to 6-1. In the span of just one week, Hopkins edged Washington College, Haverford and Dickinson in games that were decided by one goal to lift their overall record to 8-6. A combination of solid defense and timely offense have helped the Jays dominate their conference competition and leaves them within one game of clinching a spot in the Centennial Conference Tournament.

The Johns Hopkins Field Hockey team earned its second straight victory last Saturday in dramatic fashion with a game-winning goal by sophomore forward Caite Kappel with just over one minute remaining. Kappel's goal sparked the Blue Jays to a 4-3 victory over Franklin & Marshall College to improve Hopkins' Centennial Conference record to 3-1 and its overall record to 5-6.?

After a rocky first month of the season, the Johns Hopkins Field Hockey team has turned things around just in time for conference play.?Despite beginning the season 2-5, the Blue Jays now sport a 2-1 Centennial Conference record, courtesy of victories over Muhlenberg and Swarthmore this past week.?Even in its loss to eighth-ranked Eastern Mennonite on Saturday night, the team stayed competitive but lost by a score of 5-3.

Coming off a ten-day hiatus from action due to the nasty weather, the Johns Hopkins Field Hockey team has struggled to rediscover its early-season formula for winning, losing twice over the past week. The Jays lost their first conference match at Gettysburg College on Tuesday by a score of 3-0. This defeat came on the heels of a 3-1 loss to Lynchburg last Saturday.

The Johns Hopkins Field Hockey team won one of two games last week, but, strange as it may seem, the team was more encouraged by the game that it lost than it was by the game that it won. After falling to the No. 1-ranked College of New Jersey by a misleadingly lopsided 3-0 margin last Thursday in Ewing, the Blue Jays narrowly edged Washington & Lee by a score of 4-3 on Saturday at home. Overall, the Blue Jays now sport a 2-2 record.

Despite a valiant effort by the Johns Hopkins Field Hockey team last Sunday, the No. 20 Blue Jays were defeated in the second overtime period by the Lynchburg Hornets. This loss dropped the Jays' record to 10-6 on the season, but it did not spoil the optimism of the team's players, who were proud of the their performance and encouraged by its ability to keep up with 10th-ranked Hornets.
