As a Hopkins student, you will at some point in your course of study work on an essay or term paper. When in this position, you may encounter several obstacles.

If you're bored with your current workout routine or looking for an exercise regiment that will hold your interest, you may want to frequent the Recreation Center's climbing wall. One of the many amenities constructed as part of the new building, this wall is a substantial improvement over the wall in the old Athletic Center and has spurred a "mountain" of interest in rock climbing among students at Hopkins.

In the hierarchy of college authority figures, Resident Advisors are those in closest contact with the average student. However, the role of an RA is much more complicated than just that of an enforcer or casual observer.

Though few students voiced incredible enthusiasm in support of the restoration of Levering Dining Services as a meal equivalency option, it appears that many of those students on the meal plan, will lunch there for the sake of convenience and the prospect of variety.

What is art really? You know you're kidding yourself if you think of Hopkins as an artsy place, but you'd definitely be wrong to say that there aren't artsy Hopkins students. You may find some of these individuals in the Digital Media Center, a campus resource with a somewhat deceiving title and not much of a reputation. Digital Media isn't a cold computer experience. It's using technology in a totally fun way.

As further proof that Hopkins is full of movers and shakers, a member of this year's freshman class, Blake Trellien, is behind a controversial suit in Frederick, Maryland involving the placement of a religious monument in a local park.

Most freshmen asked to explain why we attend Johns Hopkins, rather than John Hopkins University would be left looking dumfounded. Hopkins trivia may not exactly be common knowledge. For the benefit of students new and old who may be in the dark, here is a bit of Hopkins history to set the record straight.

With warmer weather upon us and the summer, a period of (generally) less responsibility, approaching, outside eating affairs will occur more often. Like apartment dinner parties or other meal-inclusive events, BBQ's can involve a bit of work and planning. But of course, it is possible for party hosts to have just as much fun as their guests do. Hopkins students surveyed provided some suggestions for organizing and planning a BBQ or picnic, commenting on what makes these events successful. Consider the propositions if you intend to fire up the grill soon.

Despite documented research and various campaigns proclaiming the dangers of overexposure to sunlight and the practice of tanning in general, whether it be artificial or natural, attitudes about tanning are still overwhelmingly casual. With nice weather now upon us, it might be a good time to consider the risks involved with gaining a summer glow.

"Are you a bachelor or bachelorette looking for love?" You'll find this question on ABC's Web site, accompanying information about its new prime time television show, The Bachelor. The network is currently accepting applications for Bachelor II. This man will step in and star in the second "choose you mate" contest show after the first round is complete and current bachelor, Alex (a 31-year-old, Harvard and Stanford graduated who was born in Virginia and enjoys Balance Bars, swimming, skiing and The Simpsons) is married off.

Johns Hopkins University may be a mere Marc ride from the nation's capital, but according to some students, political activity here is not what it could be. Random students surveyed about their involvement in and awareness of political organizations collectively claimed that the environment at Hopkins is not one that encourages such participation.

Hopkins may be associated with science and studiousness, but this is not to say that JHU has no connection to or appreciation for the arts. It's hard to argue with the assertion that we work and play on a fairly attractive campus. Contributing to the overall aesthetics of Homewood are several local sculpture gardens. That interesting little area by the Athletic Center (AC) and the two outdoor extensions of the Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) are prime examples of the artistic expression surrounding us at Hopkins. While you've likely walked among these gardens and perhaps paused a moment in front of them, you're probably unfamiliar with their "stories."

Odds are if you are at Hopkins, you're pretty smart and since smart people generally tend to study and all that fun stuff, you are likely to be preparing for some major academic expenditure and work during the upcoming finals period. Surprise, surprise, this time may become stressful for you.

The name Hopkins is almost synonymous with the word research. It is our forte. But while graduate and faculty researchers receive a good deal of attention, it should be said that Hopkins undergrads are no strangers to independent projects and working outside of the classroom. In fact, 80 percent of Hopkins undergraduates participate in some form of research project before graduation. Surprisingly, until this year, there has been no place for these students to showcase their work and receive feedback from peers.

After a draining day of Hopkins-style learning, you take a break from reading that seeks to teach you something useful. You pick up this month's Cosmopolitan magazine, one who's cover, in addition to featuring information about "How to Satisfy the Naughty Male Needs Most Women Ignore," promises lustful excitement from a 69-page "All About Men Section." Fair enough, you decide, flipping to this year's "Stud Showcase." Here ("for your viewing pleasure" of course,) you are presented with "the hottest, most love-hungry hunks from all 50 states." And on page 66, you'll find Maryland's representative, a student at none other than JHU.
