As a freshman, Jake Appet was ready to hit the ground running after bring accepted into the Woodrow Wilson Fellowship Research Program. Now a senior, Appet is a Writing Seminars major interested in script writing and is using his grant money to produce a movie based off a screenplay about a high school boy's social experiences, a script he has been working on for several semesters.

The MSE Symposium continued its speaker series by hosting comedian and actor, Aziz Ansari this past Wednesday. Rather than having a philosophical lecture or address about the state of the economy, Ansari brought comedic relief to the Shriver Hall audience with his stand up routine while connecting with students and highlighting the importance of smart decision making.

The MSE Symposium hosted their second speaker of the year, Gail McGovern, last night. McGovern is the CEO of the American Red Cross and is an alumna of Hopkins. Her speech revolved around lessons she has learned throughout her long and impressive career.

Gregg Bernstein, State Attorney of Baltimore City, accompanied Hopkins students on Campus Safety and Security's Neighborhood Walkers Patrol this past Tuesday night. Bernstein attended the patrol to express the importance of the relationship between Hopkins students and law enforcement in creating a safer Baltimore.

The Republican Party came closer to choosing a candidate for President last Wednesday night in Simi Valley, California at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. The intensity of the 2012 presidential election manifested itself in a ninety-minute debate hosted by NBC's Brian Williams and POLITICO's John Harris. While there was certainly contentious debate and a fair share of mudslinging, one thing was clear: every candidate on the stage was unified in their goal of defeating President Obama next November.
