While still waiting for nationals to race at full strength, the Hopkins men's swim team placed fifth out of 24 Division I and Division III teams at ECAC championships this past weekend. The Blue Jays finished with 338 total points, first among the D-III teams. Rider University won the meet with 415 points. UMBC, a D-I school that had earlier in the year defeated Hopkins, placed sixth at ECACs with 328.5 points. Once again the Blue Jays defeated Ivy League standout Yale University, which placed tenth with 207.5 total team points.

Traveling all the way to Ohio to compete this past weekend, the Johns Hopkins women's swim team had a fantastic meet at the Blue Grass Mountain Conference Meet. The team placed second overall, finishing behind Wingate University amongst a 12-team field.

Tuesday night, while most Hopkins students were studying for Bio Chem in the library, senior co-captain Ashanna Randall scored her 1,000th career point in the last regular-season basketball game of her career. The Blue Jays traveled to conference rival Franklin & Marshall to obtain the number two seed in the Centennial Conference Tournament, defeating F&M 78-50.

Despite a mediocre 8-8 season Hopkins hopes to perform well at the Centennial Conference Tournament this weekend at Muhlenberg College. The seniors look to stand a chance to make a run for the championships in their respective weight classes. Winning a weight class at Conference Championships automatically assures an athlete of a bid to wrestle at nationals.

In its final dual meet of the season, Johns Hopkins swimming suffered losses to Division I University of Maryland Baltimore County last Saturday. The Retrievers overcame the Blue Jays 136.5 to 105.5 on the men's side, while the women lost 124-78 and finished the season 5-6. The men end the season with a record of 9-4. UMBC became the first team in the school's D-I history to end a season undefeated.

After competing against four different teams during Intersession the Johns Hopkins men's swimming team improved its record to 9-3, while the women evened out their record to 5-5 on the season. The men defeated three of the four teams, while the women won over both The College of New Jersey and Washington and Lee, losing to North Carolina and West Chester.

In a stunning mid-season upset, the Johns Hopkins men's swimming team had one of its biggest wins in school history on Nov. 23. The Jays defeated Division-I Yale University, currently third in the Ivy League, by a close score of 136-126. Hopkins won eight of the 14 events. The women fell to Yale by a score of 174-84.

Coming off disappointing finishes in the Centennial Conference Championships, the men's and women's cross country teams finished off their 2004 season this past weekend at the NCAA Mideast Regional Cross Country Championships. The championships were held in Pennsylvania at Allegheny College, where the women placed 17th and the men 20th out of a total of 35 complete teams in the region. Proving the youth of the team, freshmen Patrick Brandon and Angela Kaon both earned All-Region honors as they led their respective teams. Brandon and Kaon also led Hopkins at the Centennial Conference Championships two weeks ago and Kaon has continually placed first for Hopkins during the season.

Despite high expectations, the Johns Hopkins men's and women's cross country teams did not finish as expected this past weekend. The men came in sixth out of nine teams, while the woman placed eighth out of a field of 10.

Gearing up for their conference championships at the end of the month, the Johns Hopkins cross country teams ran against some tough competition this past weekend at the 2004 Gettysburg Invitational. The women's team placed seventh among a field of 15 earning 173 points while the men came in 10th out of 17 with 216 total points. The Lady Jays had four runners who scored points for the school by placing in the top 40 runners. The men had three runners in this scoring range. Elizabeth College won both the women and men's races. Conference foe Gettysburg came in fourth with 116 points on the women's side, while the men came in eighth with 169 points. The meet featured several top 10 regional teams, including Messiah, in addition to Elizabeth and Gettysburg.

Both the men's and women's cross country teams from Johns Hopkins won the York Invitational this past weekend in York, Pa., continuing their strong start this season. The Blue Jays won the Invitational with a perfect score of 15 points on the men's side after claming the top five individual places. The women scored 32 total points to beat out Catholic by six points, a much closer margin than the 36 points between the men's team and the next closest competitor, York College.

The Johns Hopkins cross country teams continued to show promisein their second meet of the season last weekend at the New YorkInvitational. The men's team tied for fifth place with VassarCollege out of a field of 27 teams and was the only CentennialConference school in the running. The Jays finished with 176 totalpoints.

For the first time in school history the men's Cross Country team won its opening meet of the season -- the Baltimore Metro Invitational -- this past Friday. The Lady Jays placed second, behind Division I Towson. The men placed five runners in the top 10, beating out conference rival McDaniel by 32 points.

Students in each class of Hopkins freshmen, for better or for worse, are all about doing well. That means nothing less than the best or, to the less astute, a 4.0 GPA. Their goal is to use the transcript they receive at the end of their four years to take them places that are both near and far. For many, Hopkins is a stepping stone, a necessary stop on the road to career success.

The men's soccer team started off the 2004 season with a 2-0 defeat of visiting William Patterson on Wednesday afternoon at Homewood Field. The Blue Jays never trailed in this contest, leading 1-0 in the first half and increasing their lead to 2-0 early in the second frame. Hopkins is now 1-0 on the season. The season opening win marks the 11th straight for the Jays, who are looking to advance to the NCAA tournament this year after an ECAC championship in 2003.

The Hopkins women's tennis team hit a speed bump in its strong season this week after losing 9-0 Wednesday afternoon. The women shut out conference rival McDaniel by the same score of 9-0 this past Monday. This win was the fifth straight for the Blue Jays, who, after yesterday's loss, are 7-2 in the Centennial Conference and 7-3 overall. McDaniel fell to 0-4 in league play and 0-10 overall.

At age 22, Kevin Plank knew what he wanted to do with the rest of his life. He wanted to work for himself, creating shirts that would fill a need in the sports world, a world Plank knew and loved. Last August, Under Armour launched a national television campaign, which reached 25 million viewers alone in placements on MTV Music Video Awards and ABC's Monday Night Football.
