The University held its 52nd Annual Spring Fair from April 27 to April 30. This year’s Spring Fair, following the precedent set by the previous two years, was planned by the Office of Leadership Engagement and Experiential Development (LEED) in collaboration with Hopkins Student Organization for Programming (HOP).

The University announced Kehlani as the headliner for the 2023 Spring Fair Concert on April 19, which will be held in the Ralph S. O'Connor Center for Recreation and Well-Being on April 29. Within one hour of opening registration on April 20, 1,843 tickets were sold out.

The Foreign Affairs Symposium (FAS) held its last panel of the semester on the topic of workers’ rights on April 13. The panel featured Chris Smalls, the president and founder of Amazon Labor Union, Roxie Herbekian from Unite Here and Anna Word from Teachers and Researchers United, the Hopkins graduate worker union. The event was moderated by Maximillian Alvarez from The Real News Network, and speakers shared their stories on organizing and unionizing in their respective industries.

Female leaders from International Students at Hopkins (ISAH), Female Leaders of Color (FLOC) and Inter-Asian Council (IAC) partnered to hold the Women’s History Month discussion panel on March 31. Led by ISAH Undergraduate Co-leads Shajae Pinnock and Betul Celiker, the discussion centered on themes of equity and intersectional identities and how these are expressed both in Hopkins and around the world.

Former ambassador Marie Yovanovitch shared insider perspectives on diplomacy and the current war in Ukraine at the Milton S. Eisenhower (MSE) Symposium’s 2022 series “The Road Ahead” on Nov. 9. Over her 33-year career in foreign service, Yovanovitch served as the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, the Republic of Armenia and the Kyrgyz Republic.

The Alexander Grass Humanities Institute at Hopkins hosted an intersectional discussion about systemic oppression in the U.S. on Nov. 4. The panel discussion featured Daughters of the Movement, a group of women whose parents were on the front lines of the civil rights movement.

The Teachers and Researchers United (TRU), an unofficial graduate student union, held a rally for fair wages in Keyser Quad on Oct. 25. Affiliated with United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America (UE), TRU kicked off the process to be formally recognized as a union by the University by hosting a union card drive.

The Milton S. Eisenhower (MSE) Symposium invited Mikey Day as the second speaker of their 2022 “The Road Ahead” series on Oct. 19. Day is a writer and cast member of the late-night variety show, Saturday Night Live (SNL). His talk focused on the ins and outs of his career as an actor and his experiences working on SNL.

The University hosted its fourth annual Indigenous People’s Day Pow Wow on Oct. 10. Tribes from Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia and Delaware gathered on Keyser Quad to commemorate Indigenous culture with intertribal music, dances and food.
