On October 5, two NBA teams competed in Seattle for the first time since 2008. The Golden State Warriors beat the Sacramento Kings 122-94 in KeyArena, the former home of the Seattle SuperSonics. The game was only a preseason game, so in the eyes of many, it didn’t really count for anything.
This past weekend, the Hopkins field hockey team defeated No. 19 ranked Ursinus College by a score of 2-0. The victory continued the team’s undefeated Conference season, while also extending the Jays’ win streak to 10 games. This is their longest win streak since 2008 and their 14-1 record is the best start to a season in school history.

Although both the men and the women took first in multiple races throughout the day, only the men’s team came out victorious, while the women just barely fell short.
This past weekend, the women’s cross country team dominated the Rowan Inter-Regional Border Battle. They competed against other top Division III teams, including State University of New York at Geneseo, who followed right behind the Jays in second place. The Blue Jays beat Geneseo by 51 points.
This past Saturday, the Hopkins men’s soccer team played host to the then No. 16 nationally ranked Franklin & Marshall Diplomats. The Blue Jays managed to take down the Diplomats through an unending offensive onslaught by a final score of 4-1.

The Hopkins volleyball team traveled to Swarthmore, Pa. on Saturday to play a pair of key late-season matches. The first was a Centennial Conference tilt against the Swarthmore College Garnet and the latter a non-Conference matchup against the Vassar College Brewers. Both matches proved to be challenging for the Blue Jays, but the ultimate results were undeniably gratifying.
Once again, college basketball fans find themselves subjected to an endless stream of scandals. The long-awaited corruption trial began last week and a flood of information, upsetting yet expected, has flowed out. Three Adidas employees are the defendants accused of wire fraud. Since what they did, paying a student to play basketball, is not a crime, they are being charged with a related crime called wire fraud.
This past Saturday, the 17th-ranked field hockey team traveled to the Swarthmore College Garnet. The trip was worth the two-hour, early-morning drive as the Blue Jays came home with another Centennial Conference victory. Along with the team’s dominant offensive efforts, the Hopkins defense kept the Garnet at zero successful shots, as the final score read 4-0.
Last year, the women’s soccer team lost to the Swarthmore College Garnet in the finals of the Centennial Conference Playoffs on their very own Homewood Field, and the fallen Blue Jays had to watch their opponents rush the field and hold up the Championship trophy.
This weekend the Hopkins water polo team traveled across the country to Claremont, Calif. to participate in the Gary Troyer Memorial Tournament, where they would face off against the other top Division III teams.
The Hopkins women’s field hockey team handed Muhlenberg College its first loss of the year in the Centennial Conference this past Saturday afternoon at Scotty Wood Stadium in Allentown, Pa.
On Saturday, Hopkins traveled to Franklin & Marshall College (F&M) in Lancaster, Pa. to take on the Diplomats, a team against which they carried a five-game winning streak. Both teams entered the Oct. 6 matchup boasting 4-1 records on the season. While they shared the Centennial Conference title a year ago after both finishing the regular season 9-1, the likelihood of such a scenario playing out again is highly improbable. A defeat in this game would deliver one team its second Conference loss and significantly hurt its odds to contend for this year’s Centennial title. Thus the stakes were elevated for this year’s midseason matchup between the Conference rivals.
Last weekend both the men’s and women’s swim teams traveled just down the road to the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), as they had a dual-meet, racing against two Division I competitors: the UMBC Golden Retrievers and the University of Delaware Blue Hens.

The MLB postseason is now underway, which means that it is the most exciting time of year for those who love to watch America’s Pastime. I will certainly enjoy watching October baseball, and am eager to see which team will ultimately raise the Commissioner’s Trophy at the end of the World Series. However, this time around, it will be difficult for me to appreciate the end of the season to the extent that I normally would.
