This past weekend, both the Hopkins men’s and women’s fencing teams were in action, participating in several matches. The men’s team played five matches on Sunday at the Philadelphia Invitational, winning four of the matches. One of Sunday’s victories came against ninth-ranked Duke University. The women’s team also traveled to Pennsylvania for the Philadelphia Invitational and faced stiff competition. They were able to pick up one victory out of four and faced three teams which are currently receiving votes for the CollegeFencing360.com Coaches’ Poll.

This week’s athlete of the week is Haley Schweizer, a junior on the women’s lacrosse team, who started the season with a record of 3-0. The most recent victory for Hopkins came against Rutgers College, with a win of 14-2. The scoring was led by Schweizer, who had six goals to her name.

This past weekend, the Hopkins wrestling team participated in a back-to-back-to-back triple-header, with three matches against different teams. On Jan. 19, the Blue Jays took on the Washington & Lee University Generals (40-14) and came out victorious at Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania.

The Hopkins men’s track team was in action again this weekend, participating in the Hopkins/Loyola Invite. The Jays placed third overall in track and field at the home meet with a total score of 89 points. The Invite came just a week after the Goucher Invitational, where Hopkins took top honors in many major track and field competitions, eventually finishing in the top spot 50 points ahead of the second place finishers.

The Hopkins men’s track team was in action this past Saturday at the Goucher Invitational in Towson, Md. The men’s team won the competition with a total of 283 points.

This week’s Athlete of the Week is senior Ana Bogdanovski, who capped her Hopkins women’s swimming career by winning the title in the 100 Free in her final swim at the 2015 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championship on March 21. The win brought her title count to three in this year’s competition and 10 overall in her collegiate career. The News-Letter asked her about her swimming career at Hopkins and the meaning of this title compared to her numerous others.

The Hopkins men’s swim team was in action this past Saturday, Jan. 24 at Towson University. Sophomores Andrew Greenhalgh and Evan Holder both won a pair of events at the meet, though the overall result was a loss for the Blue Jays away from home.

The Hopkins men’s and women’s cross country teams qualified to race in the NCAA D-III Cross Country Championships this past Sunday afternoon. The Lady Jays secured a coveted spot in the championship by winning the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships, while the men’s team placed third in the same tournament. The men’s win left them eligible to win an at-large bid — a bid granted to 16 of the top 32 teams in the championship.

The Hopkins field hockey team was back in action this past Tuesday, as they traveled to Westminster, Md. to take on McDaniel College in Centennial Conference play. The Lady Jays would go on to win 3-1 on the back of a three-goal first half and improve to an overall record of 8-8 with a 5-4 record in the conference. The Green Terror would drop in the standings to a record of 9-7 on the season with a 5-4 record in the conference. With the win, the Lady Jays move into a three-way tie for fourth place in the conference.

The Hopkins men’s water polo team won in sensational fashion this past weekend as they beat the George Washington Colonials 15-13 in CWPA Southern Division competitive play.

The Lady Jays were back in action this past Saturday as the women’s field hockey team looked to remain undefeated in conference play. The Jays traveled to Pennsylvania to play the Muhlenberg Mules in both teams’ second game of the conference. The away side went in with a 4-4 overall record, which included a 1-0 record in the conference. Despite a strong start in the CC, the Jays knew this game would present a different challenge.

The Hopkins men’s soccer team was in action this past Saturday against the Haverford Fords in Centennial Conference play. The Jays travelled to Pennsylvania with a strong 4-1-1 record ahead of the match and were primed to take on their opponents, who went in with a winning record of 3-2. It was the first game of the conference for both teams, and each headed in with determination to start their conference campaigns with a win.
