The nicest house on the block is on the market. It’s the perfect addition, with everything from granite countertops to a backyard pool. There’s no denying its appeal, but it sits on the market for over two years as the family patiently waits for someone to hit its lofty price. This trade deadline, the family finally got an offer they accepted. After over two years of trade rumors and a reported asking price of somewhere between two and three first-round picks or assets, the Arizona Coyotes have finally traded Jakob Chychrun.

20 wins in just 25 games, featuring a 13-game win streak. The most points (41) of any team in the National Hockey League (NHL). Unquantifiable resilience and swagger. However it’s phrased, the New Jersey Devils are taking the league by storm, playing at a ridiculous (and almost certainly unsustainable) 134-point pace.

Zero wins. Five losses. Two overtime losses. Infinite frustration. That’s the story of the Vancouver Canucks rough start to the season. Nearly one-tenth of the season elapsed and Vancouver hadn’t won a game. Their negative 12-goal differential, the second-worst mark in the league and lack of wins are bad, but the bad results tell only part of the story.

The Ottawa Senators have signed 20-year-old center Tim Stützle to an eye-popping eight-year contract worth $66.8 million that will pay him $8.35 million per year and keep him with the Senators for the foreseeable future. Stützle, the number three overall pick in 2020, is coming off a 22-goal, 58-point season in which he scored at an impressive pace of over a point per game in his final 30 games of the year.

With the Super Bowl impending this weekend, it’s time to sit back and relax and have fun — that is, for the casual fan. Certainly not for any general managers scrambling to prepare for the start of free agency. So as we await what will hopefully be a thrilling showing between the Bengals and Rams, it’s time for a free agency preview. We’re looking at six players poised to cash in.

Sixteen wins and just five losses. That’s where the Edmonton Oilers were 21 games into this season. They were looking like a team poised for a deep postseason run. Little did anyone know, the Oilers would win just two out of their next 15 games. With the Oilers head coach throwing the goalie under the bus, everything that could go wrong felt like it was going wrong for their season.

With the Major League Baseball (MLB) regular season in the books, it’s time for the American League (AL) and National League (NL) Most Valuable Players (MVPs) to be decided. In the AL, it’s going to be either Toronto Blue Jays slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. or Los Angeles Angels phenom Shohei Ohtani. And as impressive as Guerrero’s statline is with his .311 average, 111 runs batted in (RBIs) and 48 home runs, let’s not overcomplicate this: Ohtani is your AL MVP.

What may be the weirdest trade deadline ever has come and gone. While less eventful than the average non-pandemic trade deadline, several consequential moves were made. The Washington Capitals shocked the hockey world when they traded promising young forward Jakub Vrána, along with first- and second-round picks and Richard Pánik, to the Detroit Red Wings for Anthony Mantha.

The day where contending teams acquire “rentals” from non-playoff teams on expiring contracts and a few players with terms left on their contracts are traded. Draft picks and prospects are traded, contending teams prepare for the stretch run and through a few head-scratching trades, general managers occasionally unknowingly submit an implicit letter of resignation. Let’s take a look at the market and craft a preview of how likely players are to be moved, where they might end up and what future assets might be exchanged.

It’s that time of year in which fantasy football general managers are reflecting on their rosters. Ten weeks into the season, they have a rough picture of where their teams stand. But regardless of how well their teams are living up to expectations, it’s instinct to want to make them better and to be on the hunt for moves that will put their teams over the top. I spend a lot of time running analytics on fantasy, and here are three central takeaways I embrace to maximize the potential of my fantasy teams.
