The women’s track team had a successful weekend at the Mount St. Mary's Multi's and at the Widener Invite.
The Hopkins women’s tennis team beat visiting Washington College in a shut out 9-0 on Saturday afternoon. Currently ranked third, the Lady Jays remain the only unbeaten team in the Centennial Conference. They improved to 13-1 overall and 5-0 in the conference.
The Hopkins men’s fencing team participated in the 2014 NCAA Mid-Atlantic South Regional on Saturday hosted by Lafayette College. Sophomore Mark Zimmermann led the team with a ninth place finish. Sophomore John Petrie also earned a top-15 finish, placing 12th. Zimmermann and Petrie both achieved their 150th career wins on the day.
The Hopkins men’s tennis team defeated Washington & Lee 9-0 in Virginia on Sunday. The Blue Jays, currently ranked 10th, improve to 3-2 on the season, while W&L experienced their first loss of the season, falling to a record of 5-1.
The Hopkins men’s basketball team won their last game of the regular season in a close game against Washington College. The Jays improved to 15-10 overall and 12-6 in the Centennial Conference. In Head Coach Bill Nelson’s 550th career game, the team secured a first round bye in next week’s Centennial Conference Tournament.
The Hopkins women’s basketball team has had a very successful season, currently holding a record of 16-6 with only two games left in the regular season. Last Wednesday, sophomore Katie Clark helped to secure the team another win. She had a career day, finishing with her highest amount of points, rebounds and assists in a single game in her college career. She helped lead the Lady Jays to a 61-55 victory in a close game against Gettysburg after coming back from an injury. For her performance last week, The News-Letter is proud to announce Katie as our selection for Athlete of the Week.
The Hopkins women’s basketball team dominated against Bryn Mawr on Saturday afternoon, finishing with a score of 83-24 and improving their record to 15-6. This was the highest point total of the season for the Lady Jays, as every player scored at least two points in the game. It was without a doubt one of the most dominant performances that the team has had all season long.
Intersession involved many victories for the Hopkins men’s fencing team. At the 2013 Hopkins Invitational in November, Hopkins earned wins over Army, Hunter and Yeshiva. At the Brandeis Invitational on Dec. 16, the team beat Boston College for their fourth straight win. Sophomores Mark Zimmermann and John Petrie led Hopkins in the Epee and Foil, respectively. They each achieved their 100th win of their careers.
It has been a successful weekend for women’s cross country at Hopkins. In the NCAA Regional meet, the Lady Jays had four of the top five finishers, finishing with 26 points overall and a sixth straight regional championship. They also remained the top-ranked team in the nation for the 12th straight week.
The Hopkins men’s wrestling team competed in a pair of dual meets at Wilkes University’s John Reese Duals on Saturday, Nov. 9. The Blue Jays opened with a 26-15 victory over Oneonta State before getting defeated by Wilkes 28-6. The team’s record is now 2-3 after the split.

This is an exciting time for Hopkins in the sport of women’s soccer. The nationally ranked Lady Jays won their final regular season game of the year against Franklin & Marshall (F&M) this past Saturday afternoon in a shutout 3-0. The women will continue to the 2013 Centennial Conference Playoffs next weekend with a record of 16-1-1 in the season and a 9-0-1 record in the Centennial Conference.
The Hopkins men’s soccer team came back from their five game losing streak last week, winning two games in a row. In Saturday’s game against Ursinus, the Blue Jays defeated the Bears in the Centennial Conference game 3-1. Hopkins improved to 4-6-1 overall and brought their conference record to 2-2-0.
The Hopkins men’s soccer team took on competitor Scranton at Homewood Field this past Saturday afternoon. In a long match that went into double overtime, Scranton scored the game-winning goal in the 108th minute, winning against Hopkins 2-1.
The Hopkin’s women’s soccer team had an exciting game in Pennsylvania this past Saturday, beating Muhlenberg 5-0 in a dominant shutout. The Blue Jays retained their undefeated record and showed why they are ranked 2nd nationwide in Division III women’s soccer.
The Hopkins men’s and women’s Cross Country teams returned after a long summer to the Sea Gull Opener on Aug. 31. Both teams did exceptionally well, with the Women’s team claiming the title and the Men’s team placing second.
The women’s track team had an action-packed weekend, participating in three separate meets around the Northeast. These events included the Widener Invitational, the Mount Multis Meet and the Larry Ellis Invitational.
The Hopkins women’s tennis team enjoyed a successful weekend in their games against Ursinus and Haverford. Winning both matches, Hopkins brought their record up to 10-2. The squad is undefeated (5-0) in the Centennial Conference.
It was an exciting weekend in Texas as both the Hopkins men’s and women’s swim teams competed in the NCAA Championships for Swimming and Diving. Both teams did extremely well, with the men’s team finishing in fourth place and the women coming in fifth overall.
