A call away

I was waiting for college to end so I could return to it. Homesickness thus called me to be honest with my feelings and the ways I could face it proactively rather than suppress.

What actually matters is this: taking care of your mental health as a freshman means deciding to set aside time for yourself, not feeling guilty about it and recognizing that it doesn't have to be big or perfect.

On the college experience: Making friends looks different for everyone

So for any incoming or current student who might feel isolated in college relative to their peers, just remember: college looks different for everyone. And if your college experiences take a little more time, or you feel out of place, I ask you to trust yourself. You’re not alone.
