It was a tough weekend for all of the teams who took the court this weekend against the Hopkins women’s volleyball team, as the Blue Jays continued their dominant start to their 2019 campaign with three convincing victories this weekend as they traveled to Fredericksburg, Va. for the University of Mary Washington Classic.

One of the top stories in Hopkins sports last fall was the Hopkins field hockey team’s incredible run, which saw the Blue Jays finish with a 15-2 regular season before going on to win the Centennial Conference Tournament. Hopkins would take that momentum into the National Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament, winning two games and advancing all the way to the Final Four before seeing their season ended against the eventual runner-up Tufts University.

Whoever said that it’s lonely at the top clearly wasn’t talking about the Centennial Conference. The Hopkins baseball team is feeling very comfortable after securing sole possession of the top spot in the Conference last week with two wins each over the Washington College Shoremen and the Dickinson College Red Devils.

The Hopkins track teams were all over the map this past weekend. Some Blue Jays flew off to Lewisburg, Pa. for Bucknell University’s Bison Outdoor Classic and Emmitsburg, Md. for the Mount Multis, while some stayed home for the Hopkins/Loyola Invitational, as both the men and women produced multiple winners.

With March Madness wrapping up this week, it’s time for a whole new group of seasonal fans to come off of the hardwood and onto the frozen pond as the National Hockey League (NHL) playoffs begin a new iteration this week. Sixteen teams will begin their quest for the greatest prize in hockey, and with new faces and old faces ready to collide, the stage is set for a fun month of springtime hockey.

It was a battle between two of the Big Ten Conference’s best. The No. 18 Hopkins women’s lacrosse team travelled to Ann Arbor, Michigan to face off the undefeated No. 8 University of Michigan Wolverines.

The Hopkins swimming teams traveled to Greensboro, N.C. this past week, as the Jays competed in the NCAA Championships, with the men’s team placing fourth and the women’s team placing 13th after the four-day event.

It was a defensive battle between the Blue Jays and the Haverford College Fords as the two teams traveled up to Gettysburg, Pa. to face off in the semifinal round of the Centennial Conference tournament. The No. 2 seed Hopkins women’s basketball team dropped a tight battle against No. 3 seed Haverford College.

While you may not notice anything different about it while walking to class this week, make no mistake: Charles Street belongs to the Hopkins women’s lacrosse team, as the No. 23 Blue Jays battled the Loyola University Maryland Greyhounds Saturday at Homewood Field and knocked off the No. 9 Greyhounds by a score of 13-11.

As the spring semester gets underway, students have plenty reason for excitement. For some it means the start of classes, for some it means one step closer to summer and for some it means the start of lacrosse season. For the No. 23-ranked women’s lacrosse team, it was clearly the latter as the Blue Jays showed off plenty of offensive prowess as they started their 2019 campaign strong against the Drexel University Dragons.

Over the past 29 years, hundreds of student athletes have donned the black and blue of Hopkins football, and more than 50 coaches have paced along the sideline of Homewood Field. Over those almost three decades, there was one constant and that was Jim Margraff, who changed the lives of each and every one of those men that represented Blue Jay football.

The regular season is done, the Conference Championships have been decided and we’re one Army vs. Navy game away from officially entering the postseason of the college football season. Bowl Selection Sunday has concluded, and now 70 teams will prepare for their upcoming games.

2018 was a magical year for the Hopkins field hockey team. At every turn, it seemed that the Blue Jays were rewriting their own record book, only to rewrite it again just weeks later. All good things must come to an end, however, and the most successful season in Hopkins field hockey history ended in the Final Four as the No. 9 Jays fell to the No. 4 Tufts University Jumbos.

The 16th-ranked Hopkins volleyball team brought home a double victory in a busy week that saw them face-off against the Stevenson University Mustangs on Thursday, Sept. 27 and the Fords of Haverford College on Saturday. They dropped just one set over the three-day period.
