To most college students, Halloween means dressing up in the stupidest costume possible, staying out late and getting hammered. This year, when you wake up with a hangover and realize you're still dressed up as a ballerina, you'll probably think about why it happened. Why do we dress up in weird costumes and bob for apples? Why do we go around to strangers' doorsteps, saying "trick or treat?" Finally, what is the connection between underage drinking and this strange holiday? Believe it or not, there's a reason for everything on Halloween.

I thought that I was watching the beginning of the end. Reality television had gone too far. Survivor mania was in full swing, and to add to the reality TV hype, CBS had come out with Big Brother, a show in which 12 people lived in house, constantly surrounded by video cameras, until they got sick of each other and voted residents off, one by one. Who was going to watch a bunch of random people sitting around a house all day? I turned it off halfway through the show and never watched again.

It's your first week at Hopkins and you've probably already seen the many fraternity houses around the neighborhood. Perhaps you've even gone inside some of them and met some of the brothers. If you browsed through any of the literature on the campus social scene, you may have also realized that one in five Hopkins students are involved in Greek life. At Hopkins, fraternities and sororities are dominant on the social scene, especially among freshmen. But if you are anything like I was when I first got here last year, there are many important questions you wished you had the answers to. What are fraternities all about, anyway? Am I a likely candidate to pledge a fraternity at Hopkins? Other than the obvious social scene, why do people pledge fraternities anyway? How does rushing and pledging work? Here's the low-down on some things you should know about fraternities at Hopkins.

I'm off the meal plan. Perhaps that will tell you something about on-campus food at Hopkins. Don't get me wrong, though. The food isn't that bad. You just have to know how to eat it. Trust me, it's more complicated than just chewing.

For freshmen like me, graduation seems as far off as Stevie Wonder trying to shoot a gun Hell, I'm not even really sure about my major yet. Still, it scared me when I found that other underclassmen have already mapped out their futures and have specific plans set in their heads for after graduation. Nonetheless, whether your post-college ideas are vague or specific, here's a look at where you could be in a few years.

Fast food in America has been a favorite pastime, as is shown by the fact that we are often called "the fattest country in the world." In this fast and busy world, people need something to eat, and quick. Oh yeah, and people need junk food too, because who wants to eat tofu and soybeans? Yet, the American worker should not have to waste his or her time deciding on which fast food restaurant to eat at.

You're minding your own business as you drive down the interstate. The speed limit, as you know, is 65, but you're going with the flow of traffic and have decided to increase your speed to 75. Suddenly, you hear a siren and see the blue and red lights in your rear view. You get that sinking feeling and pull over for your ticket.

Living in a dorm at Hopkins has many drawbacks when it comes to cooking. Even if you live in Wolman or McCoy, your culinary possibilities can be limited. Yes, there are a sink and two burners, plus a fridge. You probably even have a microwave and a toaster of your own. The problem is, there's no oven.

Michael Jackson. At his best, he's made the world groove to revolutionary feats of music and rhythm. At his worst, he's almost indescribably farcical, a modern star as painted by Dali. He has amazed us with his moonwalk and shocked us with his appearance. His appearance and lifestyle have certainly changed over the years. Meanwhile, many say his music has changed as well.
