Over the past three years, the international student community on Homewood Campus has nearly doubled. This year’s incoming class was 14 percent international. When this year’s graduating class arrived on campus, that number sat at eight percent.

The Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) and the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences held a cross-campus research cluster and discussion titled “Terror in the Modern World” on Tuesday. The discussion was led by CCBC sophomore Devin Green, who gave a presentation on the different types of terrorism and the possible dangers surrounding counterterrorist legislation.

Last spring, University President Ronald J. Daniels announced plans to construct a student center in the Mattin Center’s current location. Although many students were hopeful that such a building would encourage students to prioritize non-academic aspects of their lives, others expressed concerns regarding the loss of Mattin, which serves as a home for the visual and performing arts on campus and hosts the Swirnow Theater.

As of this semester, all students living in Homewood dorms will be given a monthly allotment of $27 in laundry cash, which translates to 18 wash or dry cycles. The $27 in laundry cash that students receive comes directly from their existing housing fees.

The University hired Julian Goresko as its new director of sustainability at the end of last year with the intent of making Hopkins more eco-friendly. The Office of Sustainability is responsible for optimizing all nine divisions of the University’s food, water and energy consumption, along with its infrastructure, transportation and waste management.

Homewood Campus held its annual Spring Fair this weekend. The event was open to the entire Baltimore community. It kicked off the evening of Thursday, April 25 with fireworks and included a concert headlined by electronic dance music group Cash Cash, other musical performances, vendors, dances, games and a beer garden.

The Committee on Student Elections (CSE) announced the results of the 2019-20 Student Government Association (SGA) Class Council elections on Friday. Voter turnout increased from 928 to 1508 votes, a 38.5 percent increase from last year.
