This past weekend, the Hopkins men’s soccer team traveled up to Plattsburgh, New York to play in the Best Western Plus Cardinal Classic. Hopkins came into the weekend with a 2-0 record, which they sought to improve as Centennial Conference play draws near.

This past Friday the Hopkins football team opened up their 2017 season against the Washington & Lee University Generals in Lexington, Va. The Generals tested the Jays’ 41-game regular season winning streak, which spans back to the 2012 season.

The matchup between Hopkins and the University of Maryland Terrapins, known as “The Rivalry,” is the biggest rivalry in all of college lacrosse. Facing off for the first time in 1895, the 115-game series is skewed in favor of the Jays, who hold a 71-43-1 record after this weekend’s loss.

This is due to the fact that while they had a better regular season record last year, the Cleveland Cavaliers and San Antonio Spurs also had record-setting seasons, so people thought those two teams could beat the Warriors in a seven-game series.

This weekend, both the men’s and women’s tennis teams took trips up to Pennsylvania for matches against the Muhlenberg College Mules on Saturday and the Carnegie Mellon University Tartans on Sunday.

The National League (NL) will be very competitive this year, as it seems top loaded with talent. There are some teams that are powerhouses all around, as well as teams that are very strong in some areas (New York Mets’ starting rotation) while lacking in others (New York Mets’ offense). In the end, it may come down to a question of whether the strengths of a team mask their weaknesses. However, come playoff time, the teams who are strong all around will shine.

On the NCAA website, the first stat that will be looked at when evaluating a team will be the team’s Rating Percentage Index (RPI). The RPI is a number given to every team that weighs the team’s winning percentage and its opponents’ winning percentage.

After four days of spring training games, there are only two undefeated teams remaining: The Los Angeles Angels and the Cleveland Indians. Does this mean these are the two best teams in baseball? Probably not. But fans have to dream, right?

The Hopkins men’s basketball team faced off at home on Wednesday, Feb 1 against the Gettysburg College Bullets. Hopkins came into the home game riding a six-game winning streak and tied for first among Centennial Conference teams.

In the end, the choice came down to six teams: the University of Alabama Crimson Tide, the Clemson University Fighting Tigers, the Ohio State Buckeyes, the University of Washington Huskies, the Penn State Nittany Lions and the University of Michigan Wolverines. The decision was a difficult one, but in the end, they got it wrong.

After winning the Centennial Conference for the sixth straight year, the Hopkins football team hosted the first round of the NCAA South Region playoffs. The Blue Jays picked up right where they left off in the regular season, facing off against the Randolph-Macon College Yellow Jackets.

This weekend, for the fourth time in program history, the Hopkins volleyball team appeared in the NCAA tournament held at the University of Mary Washington.

This weekend was the annual Centennial Conference Volleyball Championship Tournament. Five teams competed for the automatic bid into the NCAA Volleyball Tournament. After going undefeated in Conference play during the regular season, Hopkins was the #1 seed and therefore was able to host the tournament here at Homewood.

This World Series is different than any other World Series in recent memory, not only because the Chicago Cubs won for the first time in 108 years or the fact the Cleveland Indians put up a good fight, but also because of how both managers are using their bullpens.
