Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald won his third NFL Defensive Player of the Year (DPOY) Award this season. But right after he won, J.J. Watt, also a three-time DPOY, and many others took to social media to advocate for his younger brother, Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker T.J. Watt.
Bradley Beal is the National Basketball Association’s (NBA) leading scorer, averaging four points per game more than Kevin Durant, who is second, and he plays even fewer minutes than KD. Beal is also currently playing out of his mind on the worst team in the NBA. The Washington Wizards are very bad at the sport of basketball. They have one of the worst defenses in the NBA, probably second only to the Brooklyn Nets. Unlike the Nets, the Wizards do not have three superstars or seemingly the ability to produce a 200-point game at will.
About a month ago, the National Football League (NFL) approved a new adjustment to their compensatory pick formula. Now, any team that develops a minority head coach or general manager for another team gets an extra third-round pick. For example, say the Chiefs’ Offensive Coordinator Eric Bieniemy becomes a head coach next year; the Chiefs will get an extra third-round pick in the following draft.
Let’s face it: Players are more important than coaches. Don’t get me wrong; coaches are a nice side piece, but they aren’t the ones who spend hours upon hours training to get in shape. Simply put, players have the onus of executing on the field.
You know that feeling when you look around Hop and feel incredibly detached from what life was like at home? Then your mind shifts back, and you remember your home friends, your family, your spot on the couch and that one food you love that just doesn’t taste the same in Baltimore (currently missing good pizza). It's a warm nostalgia trip that I think everyone experiences just a little bit. Every once in a while, I really crave that warmth of home, so I find an incredibly legal website to watch movies and throw on My Cousin Vinny.
Remember when the Houston Astros cheated their way into a World Series ring? Well, this season, the Astros and their fanbase used a brand-new, never-before-seen rallying cry: us against the world.
Grow the game. This has been the unofficial motto of professional lacrosse for several years now.
The Tennessee Titans and the Pittsburgh Steelers did not partake in National Football League (NFL) action this past Sunday. Now they are matching up against each other in Week Seven because 13 players have tested positive for COVID-19.
Injuries and Playoff Expectations
The National Football League (NFL) Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) is a once-every-10-years agreement between the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) and the NFL teams’ owners. To ratify the CBA, the NFLPA and the NFL work on a deal and then send it to the entirety of the players in the league for a simple majority vote.
This past Saturday, the Blue Jays wrestling team placed sixth out of seven teams in the Centennial Conference Championships in Allentown, Pa.
On Jan. 22, the women’s basketball team lost to Centennial Conference foe the Gettysburg College Bullets 52-44. Gettysburg moved to 15-1 on the year. Hopkins moves down to 10-6. Sophomore forward Diarra Oden led the team with 15 points while freshman guard Emily Howie lead the team with nine rebounds and four assists.
Hopkins women’s basketball won both of their games over Thanksgiving break to move to 4-2 on the year. The Jays beat Bryn Mawr University 76-36 and McDaniel 51-42. Both wins came against conference rivals, so the Jays earned a 2-0 start in conference play.
The Hopkins women’s soccer team won both home games this weekend.
Before I start, I have to talk about Lamar Jackson, the quarterback. He is not like Tim Tebow. He’s not a gimmick, not some wide receiver playing wildcat. He is leading one of the best offenses in the league, and he just made New England’s number one ranked defense look slow and undisciplined.
Twenty-five. Twenty-five wins in a row for Hopkins Volleyball. There are only three instances of a Hopkins team with a longer win streak: 2004 Baseball (33), 2010 Baseball (32) and 1932-1934 Men’s lacrosse (26).
There’s been a significantly large number of home runs over the past couple of years. The five teams with the most home runs are: 2019 Twins, 2019 Yankees, 2019 Astros, 2019 Dodgers and the 2018 Yankees. Even accounting for the newer Yankee Stadium’s shorter field, this list is very obviously skewed toward today’s teams, especially considering the record before the 2018 Yankees was set in 1997.
If you haven’t heard yet, the Hopkins volleyball team is very good.
This past weekend, the Hopkins field hockey team played two non-conference games, one home matchup and the other away.
