This past Friday, the men and women of the Hopkins track and field team had a home meet at the Johns Hopkins Invitational. Numerous teams from every division arrived in Baltimore for the Blue Jays’ first and only home meet of the year.

In the first outdoor competition of the 2017 season, the men and women of the Hopkins track & field team recorded numerous personal bests and Conference-leading times despite the horrific wind conditions, intense rains and tornado warnings that delayed many of the races late into the night.

The men and women of the Blue Jays’ swim team kicked off their spring break with a trip down to Shenandoah, Texas for the 2017 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. The competition kicked off on Thursday, March 16, with the first of many outstanding All-American performances for the Jays.

Competing against the best athletes from across the nation, senior Andrew Bartnett and sophomore Felicia Koerner of the Hopkins track & field team managed to bring home the hardware. Not only did the two earn All-American honors, which is awarded to the top seven finishers in each event, but Koerner and Barnett both finished among the top three athletes in the nation in their respective events.

This past weekend, the Hopkins men’s and women’s fencing teams both brought home a collection of hardware. On Saturday, the women competed in the 89th National Intercollegiate Women’s Fencing Association (NIWFA) Championship. The men would wait until Sunday to compete in the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Fencing Association (MACFA) Championship.

After two days of fierce competition, both the men’s and the women’s track and field teams ran away with the Centennial Conference title last weekend. While the men would easily capture their fifth straight indoor Conference Championship, more than 80 points ahead of the runner-ups, the women squeaked by the Dickinson College Red Devils for their seventh straight Conference title.

The Hopkins women’s lacrosse team is showing early signs of greatness after its first two games of the 2017 season. The Jays dominated their season opener against the American University, running away with an 18-6 win over the Eagles. This past Saturday, the Jays managed to hold off Marquette University to pick up another early win.

Last Friday night was the highlight of the season for the Jays men’s water polo team. In their last home game of the year, the Jays defeated the 18th ranked George Washington University Colonials in what turned out to be a riveting contest. The Jays ended the Colonials five-game league winning streak with a 15-10 win at the Newton White Athletic Center, handing the Colonials their second loss in the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPS) this season.

The Hopkins Women’s Cross Country team continued to display their dominance this season, claiming their ninth straight Centennial Conference Championship this past weekend in Haverford, Pa. With 21 total team points, the women were virtually unchallenged from the start.
