Why is it that now, more than ever, National Basketball Association (NBA) players are forced by the media to be overly concerned about their legacies? This doesn’t necessarily result from the media questioning the players directly during interviews; rather, it’s the consequence of legacies being such a hot topic amongst NBA analysts on television, Twitter and other forms of media and the need to fill the 24/7 sports talk and news cycle.

The Hopkins women’s tennis team took care of business at home this past weekend, defeating the Haverford College Fords on the Jays’ home courts by a score of 8-1. The Blue Jays emerged victorious again on Tuesday, beating the Gettysburg College Bullets 8-0 and the Loyola University Maryland Greyhounds 4-3.

This past weekend, the Hopkins men’s tennis team travelled to Salisbury, Md. to take on the Salisbury University Sea Gulls. The Blue Jays defeated the Sea Gulls by a score of 7-2, earning their second win of the season.

This past weekend, the Hopkins women’s track and field team competed at the Centennial Conference Indoor Championships hosted by Franklin and Marshall College. The Jays dominated the competition, clinching their ninth consecutive Conference Championship.

Hopkins track and field dominated the NYC DIII Invitational this past week, as both the men’s and women’s teams finished first in the meet. The men were the best of 27 teams, finishing with 98.5 points, while the second-ranked women finished the best of 24 teams, earning 124 points.

Last weekend, the Hopkins men’s and women’s swimming teams headed to Providence, R.I. to compete in the Bruno Invite against Division I schools. The women finished in sixth place, while the men grabbed third place, finishing behind only Princeton University and Columbia University.

The Hopkins wrestling team headed to Springfield, Mass. to compete in the Doug Parker Invitational on Nov. 17. The Blue Jays finished in 10th place out of 17 teams, earning 53.5 points on the day. Host Springfield College (111.5 points), Centenary University (102.5) and the University of Southern Maine (97.5) rounded out the top three finishers.

Despite losing in the Centennial Conference Championship, the No. 8-ranked Hopkins women’s soccer team was granted the opportunity to host the first and second rounds of the Division III NCAA Tournament this past weekend.

This past weekend, the Hopkins volleyball team swept their way through the Centennial Conference Tournament. On Saturday, Hopkins defeated the Swarthmore Garnet in the semifinals and, on Sunday, they beat the McDaniel Green Terror, taking home the school’s third consecutive Conference Championship. The Jays completely dominated the competition, winning each set by an average of almost 10 points.

This past weekend, the Hopkins field hockey team defeated No. 19 ranked Ursinus College by a score of 2-0. The victory continued the team’s undefeated Conference season, while also extending the Jays’ win streak to 10 games. This is their longest win streak since 2008 and their 14-1 record is the best start to a season in school history.

I had the pleasure of interviewing the one and only Bill Burr on Friday, Oct. 12. For those who don’t know, Burr is a 50-year-old comedian from Canton, Mass. His brand of comedy is filled with rage and poking fun at various aspects of everyday life.

This past weekend the Hopkins women’s soccer team defeated the Muhlenberg College Mules, 1-0, and has yet to lose a Centennial Conference matchup. The victory marked the fourth consecutive shutout for the Blue Jays and improved their record to 11-1 on the season.

This past weekend, the Hopkins field hockey team played the Washington College Shorewomen in its Conference home opener. The 17th-ranked Blue Jays dominated, winning 3-0 and recording their third shutout on the season.

The Hopkins women’s volleyball team dominated in York, Pa. this past weekend, claiming four victories in as many games. Ranked No. 16 in the nation, the Blue Jays defeated Elizabethtown College, Gallaudet University, New York University and hometown York College, bringing them to a 5-0 record on the season. Hopkins swept in each match except against York, which required five sets for the Jays to take care of business.

The men’s soccer team started off their 2018 campaign strong with two wins this past weekend. Hopkins opened up the season on Friday with a 2-1 victory over Hampden-Sydney College, followed by a 3-0 win against North Carolina Wesleyan College on Saturday. Five different Blue Jays accounted for the weekend’s goals, which were enough thanks to a strong defensive showing, anchored by sophomore goalie Xander LeFevre.
