At Hopkins, every undergraduate student has the experience of sitting through five hours of Bystander Intervention Training (BIT) sessions during their freshman year. For the last four years, the University has mandated that students attend this training in order to better equip them to prevent forms of gender violence including sexual assault.

The Baltimore-based art activist group, FORCE: Upsetting Rape Culture, brought the Monument Quilt to campus on Wednesday. The Quilt serves as a public display of solidarity with survivors of sexual violence and their allies.

Baltimore currently has three state-designated arts and entertainment districts: in Station North, Highlandtown and around the Bromo Tower. However, many community leaders and residents have advocated for the creation of a fourth arts district around Pennsylvania Avenue in West Baltimore that focuses on black art.

Hopkins alumni Greg Asbed and Laura Germino received the 2018 Anne Smedinghoff Award at the final event of this year’s Foreign Affairs Symposium (FAS) on Tuesday. Asbed and Germino are internationally recognized for their human rights work, and last year Asbed received a MacArthur “Genius” grant.
