I don't know if this has been explained previously, but as an outsider, I'm curious why the JHU athletics department forbid its students from pledging fraternities. It seems more schools are beginning do the opposite so their athletes have a more "standard and complete" college experience rather than isolating themselves from the rest of the student body. Suddenly disallowing it just doesn't make much sense to me.

I'm curious why Phi Kappa Psi, with record high numbers in their pledge class, was not mentioned or asked for comment...

I would venture to take an educated guess and say that they most likely contacted them and received no response. The News section is usually very good about contacting everybody needed for an article.
