Abstract:
Our civilization is hopelessly chained to the corporate elite, corrupt leadership of unstable states and a bureaucracy that has been unable to bring about change. While we might pretend to think that we are in charge of the economy, power still remains largely in the hands of an elite few....

Who did? The blacks themselves did. The women themselves did. And now gay people are demanding their equality. NO group has ever enjoyed liberty that they did not fight for, and the path to these victories has always been started by a rare few, an event, someone coming along at just the right time to say "No more. I'm not going to take it." Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, these weren't movements. They were individuals who arose at just the right time and place so that others like them followed suit. Such movements gained energy and momentum when the masses followed, but the masses were often ignorant of much of the politics and real issues behind it all. They were there because it was the In or Right thing to do, or because they felt the need to rebel against SOMEthing.
The Internet has made a much larger portion of the public aware and, as such, they are better collected. Make no mistake, though. There will be no International treaty. What there WILL be is the choice of individuals, and some of those people will be in positions of power.
Already, the shift has begun. Like a 99th Monkey, we're suddenly all on the same page about electric cars, and learning to think outside of the combustion engine. People who were not particularly PC are saying that any auto bailout must include alternative energy cars, better fuel economy, etc. The change IS coming, but not on the backs of the masses.
Necessity remains the mother of Invention. Had gas prices remained low, this movement would not have gained momentum. Now the oil manufacturers realize they must keep the prices low, and they hope we will forget. Our job, yours and mine, is to ensure that they do not forget, to keep the momentum going. Gratefully, there is much to be inspired by. Necessity prompted electric cars with a range of more than 100 miles. It gave birth to compressed air vehicles, new methods of charging hydrogen fuel cells, more efficient solar cells.
Many paths are laid out before us. Chosing between them will not always be easy, but one choice is determined. We cannot go back to the way things were before.
Your intentions are good, noble even. But don't wait for the cavalry to arrive, or for the masses to create a bandwagon. YOU must create that bandwagon, and then the masses will eventually climb aboard.
Peace & Creation,
