I think that the covered grade policy is quite wonderful. Among high school students, Hopkins is correctly known to be quite challenging, academically. And there is something to this, even as compared to other top ranked schools. It does not elude potential applicants that Hopkins virtually requires students to take 5 courses per semester in order to have the requisite credits for graduation...this in contrast with other top schools in which students need to take only 4 courses. I think that before any changes are made, the administration should carefully look at, and make sure it understands, its perception among high school students. It is not thought to be true that the rigor at all top schools are equal. Most potential applicants know that this is not true. For many top schools, the perception is that the most difficult aspect is getting in. This perception is not held for Hopkins.
